Britain's Loneliest And Most Miserable Dog Spends 901 Days Longing For 'Forever Home'

Dogs are the best companions that we humans will ever have. They're sweet, protective and loyal. Typically when a good dog is in a shelter, it's easy to find them a loving home. After all, none of us want to see a good dog suffer.

However, one dog in the UK hasn't been so lucky. Eight-year-old Sam has been called the loneliest dog in England after spending a horrifying 900 days in shelter care.

Sam originally came into shelter care in 2014 when his forever family decided that forever was a bit too long for them. Sadly, he's since been adopted four times. The first three families decided a pooch was too inconvenient, while the forth tragically passed away only six months after adopting Sam.

Sam's story has led many to speculate that Sam must have a behavioral issue that's rendered him unlovable. However, shelter staff members insist that Sam has no behavioral issues whatsoever. In fact, he's an incredibly outgoing and loyal dog.

"It’s never anything [he's] done," shelter manager Karen Rickards insisted to the British press. "[Sam's] just constantly found himself in the wrong [place] at the wrong time."

The shelter has never had a dog that's been with them for as long as Sam. However, they're committed to ensuring that Sam isn't put down. After all, they say he's gentle, playful and sweet. Sam just wants to be loved, but he's been plagued with a shocking streak of bad luck.

Now, the shelter is starting a campaign to find a family that will make Sam their forever dog once and for all. Not only are they campaigning on social media, but they've gotten the attention of the British press and the public at large. Sam's story has gone viral, accompanied by plenty of pics of the pooch frolicking in the grass and showing off his happy personality.

"Sam is a great dog, he is fun and makes you laugh," shelter manager Karen Rickards told us when asked about Sam's personality. "He is playful and loving and can be quite lazy as well. He will need to be the only pet in the home and kept on a lead when on a walk as he will chase small furies as he is a retired working dog and we know he is not good around small furies (cats, rabbits, small dogs etc.). He is obsessed with teddy's and likes rip them up to see what's in side. He is fine with children (6 years +)."

If you want to help Sam finally find the family that will love him until the end of his days, be sure to spread this story far and wide. Even if you aren't located in the UK, the more attention this story gets means a better chance that Sam can find a family to finally call his own.
