'Bridezilla' Rants Online After Friends Refuse To Spend $2K Each To Attend Wedding

Sep 24, 2021 by apost team

Weddings are expensive, and that cost goes up exponentially when you plan a destination wedding. Typically, the guests are on their own when it comes to travel expenses, which makes it possible that fewer people may be able to attend. One bride took to Facebook to post an angry rant after the majority of her friends decided not to attend her wedding due to the cost.

In her post, the bride explained that she had originally planned to have her destination wedding in Thailand and that the average cost for travel expenses would be around $3,000 per guest. When only 9 people out of 150 agreed to attend, the bride and groom decided to reevaluate and find somewhere closer to tie the knot.

Then the couple changed their destination to Hawaii because this would save each guest around $1,000, the bride explained. Making the new cost to attend the wedding $2,000 per person. This time only seven people RSVP’d. The bride was furious and decided that she needed to address this with her friends and family on Facebook.

The unhappy bride even went as far as to say that if her friends didn’t respond to her invitation in the following days she would be deleting them from her friends list and they would not be seeing her or the groom anymore. The response to this bridezilla’s post has been unanimous, with everyone agreeing that she is out of line here. Keep reading to see what exactly the bride said and how people on Reddit reacted to the rant.

The bride started her post by writing: “At the risk of sounding entitled… I have to vent today. When we invited our friends and family to our destination wedding in Thailand, only nine people RSVP’d. Out of 150!!!" The story was posted on Reddit with the title “She seems nice.”

The bride continued, “OK, I get it, paying $3,000 to share my special day is too much for some of you, I’d pay for yours, but whatever. But then, when we changed the wedding to be in Hawaii, so it’s within everyone’s reach, only 7 of you RSVP’d??”

She continued her rant, writing, "It costs less but less of you wanna come? Is that what you think of [Groom] and me? You can’t spare $2k to come to share our happiness? I’m tempted to just elope and not let any of you be a part of our happiest day.” It seems the bride doesn’t grasp that $2,000 is a lot of money for most people.

She even went so far as to threaten to stop being friends with people because they would not, or could not, pay $2,000 to attend her wedding. “This is it guys, you have three days to respond to our e-vites or we’re deleting you off FB and good luck keeping up without lives then.”

To top it all off, the bride tactlessly brought up that her friends had only bought the cheap items off of her wedding registry. She said she expected more from the people in her life. “And don’t get me started on the registry… only the cheap stuff is gone, I swear I thought I had better friends [Groom] and I are asking you to reconsider,” she wrote.

The bride’s rant was posted to the Reddit forum r/facepalm where over 3,000 people stopped to leave their reactions to the post. One commenter wrote on Reddit, “I'm surprised Bridezilla has any friends.” To which someone else replied: “She likely won’t after this and I wouldn’t be surprised if the seven canceled after that post.”

Others felt the bride was the real reason none of the friends wanted to attend the wedding. Another person said, “I’d spend 2k on the Hawaii destination but her being on the same island is a deal-breaker.”

Many people shared their own experiences with paying for wedding arrangements. “That's just over the top entitled. We're not rich but we paid for almost everything for the groomsmen and bridesmaids. Clothes, shoes, etc. Secured a group rate at a hotel and the few out of town paid for their own rooms,” wrote a different user.

They added: “We had saved for 3 years for our wedding and if we could have afforded the hotel rooms we would have paid for those too but the two groomsmen and bridesmaids were ok with only having to pay for their rooms and nothing else. Our wedding registry also had mainly inexpensive items. We wanted a celebration with friends and treated it like we were hosts for a party. Guests shouldn't be extorted.”

This bride will be in for a rude awakening when her friends still don’t want to attend her wedding after reading her rant. Hopefully, she shakes off her bridezilla tendencies and realizes threatening to block her friends is not the way to win them over.
