Bride’s Reaction To Groom Saying Ex-Girlfriend’s Name During Vows Is Unbelievable

Rebecca Fildes captured the internet’s attention after sharing a now-viral TikTok video from one of the most unforgettable moments of her life: her wedding day. The clip showed Rebecca exchanging vows with her husband, Andrew Fildes, at a registry office in Bedfordshire, England. Having been together for six years before finally walking down the aisle in October 2023, the couple’s big day was supposed to be nothing short of perfect.

However, what made the moment memorable wasn’t just the vows or the celebration, but a slip of the tongue that immediately reminded viewers of a famous television scene. The couple compared the situation to the iconic “Friends” episode in which Ross accidentally said the name “Rachel” instead of his bride, “Emily,” during his wedding vows.

But unlike the dramatic fallout in the sitcom, Rebecca took the unexpected twist in stride. In what many viewers praised as a refreshing response, the bride refused to let her husband’s verbal misstep ruin their special day, choosing instead to laugh it off.

Rebecca’s lighthearted reaction struck a chord online. Since posting the video, her TikTok has racked up more than 38,000 views, sparking thousands of comments from people who imagined how they might have handled the same scenario.

One person wrote in the comments section: “I wouldn’t laugh to hear the name of his ex-girlfriend… I would cancel the wedding, that’s a big red flag.”

Another said: “I’d be bringing this up for the next 50 years.” A third user added: “Oh dear, that’s not a good sign, is it?”

In the viral wedding footage, Andrew, 51, could be seen looking slightly tense as he stood across from his bride, Rebecca, 46, while holding her hands during their vows. The moment, meant to be serious and emotional, quickly turned into one of hilarity when Andrew, in a nervous slip of the tongue, accidentally called her “Sarah.” His mistake sent Rebecca into uncontrollable laughter, a moment she later chose to share with the world on TikTok. She captioned the video:

“When (your) new husband calls you his ex-girlfriend’s name.”

In detail, Rebecca captured both the humor and awkwardness of the situation. Though she found it funny, she captioned the post with a simple “oh dear” alongside a hands-covering-face emoji, showing her good-natured response to what could have been a tense situation.

According to the Daily Mail, Rebecca quickly corrected Andrew at the altar, while guests reacted with visible shock. Andrew himself later admitted he was caught completely off guard:

“I wasn’t even aware of it when I said it. Rebecca just looked at me and I thought ‘What have I said wrong’ and she corrected me.”

He added:

“My brother put his hand on his face and my son shook his head and I thought, ‘I’ve clearly got something wrong.’”

Andrew later explained the slip by saying it was “just one of those things but it’s quite a common name. Although it’s my ex, we’ve been separated for 10 years.”

Rebecca, however, made it clear she wasn’t upset.

“We’ve got the kind of relationship where I don’t think he did that for any reason other than just making a mistake. I just laughed it off and we still laugh about it. I keep saying he owes me a proper wedding now, where he gets my name right,” she explained.
