Bride Shamed By Friends For Buying Bridal Dress From An Affordable Clothing Brand To Reduce Costs

Let's face it: weddings are one of the most expensive events we will ever sponsor in our lives. Everything seems so overpriced, from catering to the venue to even the bride's wedding dress. The average cost of a wedding is usually in the ten-thousands category. For some, this may be the income over a few months, and it is very probable that to save this much would take a very long time. One bride has found a unique way to lessen the financial burdens of her wedding.

H&M has long been the popular choice of affordable clothing for both men and women for every occasion. One less commonly known fact is that they also sell wedding gowns. One bride has recently looked to H&M for the purchase of her bridal gown. Of course, one can see why this may be a better idea than purchasing a gown from a boutique. Shopping at a boutique can often be extremely costly and there is very little privacy as an assistant is always at your side.

After some time searching for her dream dress, our bride soon found one at H&M that was off the shoulder and decked with lace, a seemingly gorgeous design. She fell in love with the dress and ordered it online. It was on sale and she was lucky enough to fit well into one of the last sizes that were left. Of course, she decided to ask for a second opinion and tried it on in front of her mother-in-law and other relatives.

In her blog on Mumsnet, she commented, "Everyone agreed that the H&M dress was the one – it fitted really well and looked well made."

However, not everyone felt the same way about her surprise. She later turned to Mumsnet users for advice when her 'good friends' were bemused about where she bought her dress. Our bride began to feel bad after her friends began to ridicule her choice to wear a dress purchased from H&M.

"I thought people would just say something vaguely positive and leave it there, but a number of good friends have asked if I'm definitely going to go with it, I'm not going to go to a 'proper shop' etc," she said according to The Sun.

She began to wonder what about her dress was ridicule-worthy, the dress itself, or its origin. Mumsnet users calmed her fears by writing encouraging comments such as, "Oh that dress is lovely. Ignore everyone's comments, you'll look fab." Mumsnet users seemed to be more genuine compared to her 'good friends.' There is one valuable lesson to be learned here: 'do what makes you happy, no matter what everyone else thinks.'
