Bride Receives Internet Attention For Letter She Sent To Bridesmaids In Order To Be 'Transparent' About Cost Of Wedding

Getting married is a time full of fun and romance and gives the bride and groom the opportunity to make even stronger connections with not only each other, but also with their wedding party. Although this is typically a time full of plenty of joy and excitement, there are a few brides that have been known to take their planning a bit too far and have been titled as a Bridezilla. Bridezillas are known for their obsessive attention to detail and desire to control each and every aspect of their wedding in order to make their special day as perfect as possible.

One woman went viral on TikTok in June 2021 after sharing a letter she wrote to her bridesmaids that explained what she expected of them. Lisa Torres, 29, made sure to prepare her side of the wedding party well before the date of the ceremony, so much so that she sent each of her prospective bridesmaids a two-page letter with each and every detail about the upcoming nuptials.

Rather than acting like a Bridezilla, Torres chose to send out the letter as a way to let her bridal party know just how much each activity they were set to do together was going to cost, such as the bachelorette party itself, the cost of the flight to get there and even how much the bridesmaids dresses were likely going to cost. Torres made sure to be as transparent as possible with her bridal party so everyone could have a good time gearing up for the loving couple’s big day.

Her Detailed Letter

Business Insider reported that the now viral TikTok woman got engaged to her boyfriend, Alex Cortes, in April. In order to prepare for their wedding, Torres sent out a bridesmaid proposal box to her bridal party that included the now famous two-page letter detailing what was expected of them. In a video, Torres talked about how she “wasn’t fully aware of all the costs and expectations associated with being a bridesmaid” when she was one herself. Therefore, she wanted to be as transparent as possible with her own bridesmaids.

The two-page letter she sent her bridal party outlined time and money commitments, and more importantly gave the ladies the opportunity — with no hard feelings — to turn down the chance to be one of her bridesmaids. Torres showed a close-up look at the letter with her social media followers, showing the detailed mandatory commitments such as the bachelorette trip, and the optional commitments such as wedding-dress shopping.

The bride explained how she wanted her bridesmaids to be able to pick out their own dress styles so long as they were a dusty rose color. She also detailed how the bachelorette party was set to be at an all-inclusive resort in Mexico. Torres estimated the prices to be about $200 for each bridesmaid dress and about $500 per person for the trip to Mexico.

Torres hoped to encourage others to focus on the “bigger picture” that “transparency is the best policy” when it comes to preparing for your wedding day alongside your wedding party. She also wanted to “normalize allowing people to say no to being part of the wedding party” without ruining long-lasting relationships and friendships.
