In 2008, at just 21 years old, Gina Giaffoglione was in a horrible car accident, which rendered her unable to walk.

The young woman did not let that stand in the way of her making her dreams come true and, in 2014 as she married the love of her life, she managed to do something doctor's said would be impossible: she walked down the aisle, arm in arm with her dad.

On March 22 2008, Gina Giaffoglione was left paralyzed from the waist down following a tragic car accident. The car in which she was riding had ejected her from her seat after it jumped a curb, before flipping over three times and pinning her right arm and leg.

“I went from an independent, successful college student and business owner to a dependent infant,” Giaffoglione told CHI health

Before the car accident, Gina had a promising future. While she was already the owner of her own gymnastics tumbling school, she also was a successful college student. The severity of this accident left Gina physically and emotionally traumatized, but she did not let her injuries stop her from moving forward with life.

Making her dreams a reality

Giaffoglione always had a can-do attitude. Rather than letting life’s little hurdles slow her down, she learned long ago to face her challenges. So when she was planning to marry her fiance, John Springhower, she challenged herself to do what many thought would be impossible: she was going to attend intensive therapy to learn to walk again, just in time for her dad to walk her down the aisle.

The bride-to-be went through physiotherapy to be able to stand again and learned to walk through the use of a clutch and a custom-designed brace. One and a half years later, her therapy proved to be a success and she stunned her family and friends and she was walked down the aisle by her dad.

"I'm my dad's only girl, and I'm the baby. Dad deserves that," Giaffoglione told ABC News at the time.
