A Soldier's Love for His Country

Zaykeese Riley was in training at Fort Lee in Virginia. As a relatively new member of the U.S. Army, he was in the midst of Advanced Individual Training (AIT). Most recruits in the AIT program do not get to take any leave.

Zaykeese understood this, and so did his mom. His mom lives in Houston and had been planning her wedding. Having raised her two children as a single parent, she knew that her son's work might get in the way of this family event. She fully understood that he might not make it home in order to attend her wedding.

A Son's Love for His Mother

Zaykeese has the utmost level of respect for his mother. He not only respects her because she is his mother, but he respects the hard work and dedication that it took to parent two children on her own. He wanted to be able to attend her wedding, so he set out to convince his commanding officers of his need for a brief period of leave to travel to Houston.

The Wedding Day Arrives

His mom walked down the aisle in her wedding gown and veil. She did not realize that her son was behind her. The minister and music stopped for a moment, and she wondered what the delay was. The extended family was in on the surprise.

Her son stepped up, and she gasped for breath in shock. She began to cry tears of joy at the sight of her son. The bride had fully expected her son to miss out on this momentous occasion, and she was thrilled that her son's chain of command permitted him to leave in order to attend the ceremony.
