The woman posted on the Reddit forum /u/AmITheA**hole, which serves as a sort of advice column for people who are worried that they mismanaged a situation or handled something inappropriately. She wanted to know if she'd been in the wrong for asking a married couple with children to leave her child-free wedding.

It all started with the invite. "To be clear, all of my invitations stated that there were to be no children at this wedding," the bride wrote. She'd invited a long-time family friend even though she wasn't particularly close to her, and the woman chose to bring her husband and two small children with her.

The former was fine. The latter caused some irritation for the bride, but she decided not to make a fuss about it."I let it slide," she explained. "I was preoccupied for obvious reasons." There were other children at the wedding, including the bride's young flower girl, but they were whisked away before the reception. The bride hoped that the woman would follow suit with her own kids. Her hopes were dashed when the woman brought both children to the reception.

"I mean, everyone was drinking and loud and rowdy and a crying child and another little one running around was not part of the plan," she said. Identified as a toddler and young preschooler, the children had already caused problems during the wedding ceremony itself. The toddler had to be removed from the hall after causing a fuss, and the preschooler was described as cranky and rambunctious.

Their appearance at the reception was the last straw for the annoyed bride, and she sent over her event planner to kick out the parents. They argued, and the bride and groom had to intervene. The discussion started cordially, and the mother tried to assure the bride that she would mind her children.

"I said that wasn't the point," the bride wrote, adding, "I reiterated that the event was child-free and said that I had stated so clearly on my invitations." Things got heated. The groom and the woman's husband exchanged words. Finally, the bride said that she "snapped" and told them that they needed to leave. "The whole scene was incredibly embarrassing which is exactly what I wanted to avoid," she lamented.

Her mother told her that people were gossiping about the incident throughout the evening. Later, she would learn that her guests were arguing about whether her decision was justified or not, and the married couple was spreading lies about the cops being called. "I hate that my wedding day had to be somewhat marred by this incident," she wrote. She appealed to the readers of /u/AmITheA**hole. Had she been unreasonable?

Most comments were quick to defend her. "Absolutely NTA [not the asshole]," said one user. "You stated it on the invitation and asked them politely first. I feel awful that a day that was meant to be the best of your life was tarnished by the event." "The assholes we're the ones who brought their kids to an explicitly child-free event," chimed in another user. "And then caused a scene when they were asked to leave."

However, as the post gained traction on the news and social media sites, there were some people who thought that the bride should have handled things differently. "Being cultured means glossing over and rising above such annoyances and not turn it into an unsightly spectacle, embarrass yourself, and others," said one commenter. "You could have just let it be, and the wedding would still have been just fine." There were also people who questioned whether the bride's attitude was part of the problem.

"Let's be honest: the idea that your wedding must be the best day of your life is stupid," one user wrote. Eventually, the post went viral. It attracted almost 1,500 comments before it was locked by forum moderators, and it gained thousands more as the story was re-posted on many popular news websites.

People all over the world have been weighing in on whether the bride was justified in her decision. Some people argue that she had the right to determine the guest list at her own wedding; others think that she escalated the situation or approached it from the wrong angle.

What do you think? Are you on the bride's side, or do you have more sympathy for the couple with children? What would you have done in their place? Let us know in the comments!
