Bride Doesn’t Want To Be Pushy Vegan’ After Uncle Demands Meat At Her Wedding Feast

Weddings bring a lot of light, love and happiness to not only the happy couple, but also to their family, friends and other guests who are lucky enough to get an invite to the big day. A lot of planning and decision making goes into making this one day truly magical and enchanting. Whether it’s choosing a band or a DJ to play music, picking one color or nine colors for the theatrical decoration, or opting for the ceremony to take place inside out outside, the decisions are completely up to the couple.

Another task the couple has to do is figure out what everyone is eating, since gathering both sides of the family for a beautiful meal is one of the most important moments of any wedding. One couple in particular struggled to come up with a menu that suited everyone in her wedding party and guest list. Both the bride and groom are vegan, meaning that they do not eat any animals or animal products, including meat and dairy products.

Their diet is pretty important to their lifestyle, so the couple has made sure that their menu plan follows suit, and even notified their guests about the food that would be available. Despite their kind notice, some guests were not too keen on the menu, and made sure to let the bride and groom know. This has caused a bit of a rift between some of the guests, resulting in them potentially being uninvited due to their unwillingness to give the food a try.

Sticking To The Menu

This bride and groom were set to be married in June 2021, according to the bride’s Reddit post from Nov. 25, 2020. The bride explained how even though they are both vegans, they don’t judge others who aren’t, but still wanted to serve vegan food at their wedding and even found a great vegan caterer. They even made sure to ask if any of their guests had dietary restrictions when they sent out the wedding invitations so they could cater to their needs, too.

Her aunt called after receiving an invite, and explained that the bride’s uncle “does not want vegan food” because “he needs to eat meat.” Unsatisfied, the bride expressed her frustrations with her relatives about having to get a new caterer and serving food that she herself doesn’t even eat.

The couple’s caterer came up with some low-carb meal options for three of the bride’s cousins, who prefer to eat a low-carb diet, according to her Reddit post. This once again raised an issue with the bride and her uncle, who still demanded to be given meat at the wedding because he “doesn’t like” vegan food.

Knowing that her uncle ate and liked some of the food items that were on the menu, like vegetables and nuts, the bride was still upset and suggested that her uncle could buy McDonald’s and eat it at the kid’s table, or just not attend the wedding at all. “I don’t want to seem like a ‘pushy vegan’ but I also don’t want to pay for meat unless I have to,” she wrote in her Reddit post, wondering if she was the jerk for being adamant about the menu, or if her uncle was for refusing to eat one free meal without meat.
