Bride Criticized For Cutting Her Grandmother's Wedding Dress To Make A Rehearsal Outfit

Everyone in the world has different family traditions when it comes to wedding ceremonies. There are brides who put sugar cubes into their gloves, and there are some who get henna on their hands and feet and many more.

In a 2023 viral video on TikTok, one bride named Brittany Dalena shared the story behind the tradition that her family had been following for years, but when it was her turn, she decided to look at things from a different perspective and went out of the box. However, not everyone agreed with her decision.

The bride can be seen wearing a white two-piece dress composed of a top with puffy sleeves and a pencil skirt. The look was completed with minimalist accessories such as earrings, bracelets, a white purse, and a pair of white heels.

In the clip, the woman walked up to a person who was approaching her for a hug until an older lady was shocked upon seeing her dress up close, leading her to utter the words, “Oh my God! No way!”

The bride then gave her a big hug, and the lady became emotional all of a sudden.

To give context about what happened in the video, the TikTok user shared a slideshow of photos toward the end of the clip, which featured old photos of different women in her family wearing the same dress during their wedding day.

However, hers was completely different as it appeared to be altered, as she explained in the caption, “3rd generation wedding dress turned into a rehearsal dress.”

The video was posted both on her Instagram and TikTok accounts, and online users shared their different opinions about the big move that she pulled off as the dress looked different than it was when some of her female family members wore it.

One user pointed out that the outfit looked nice, and the older lady’s reaction was beautiful, writing, “The dress is so beautiful. And grandma's reaction has me tearing up. Love this. Was the alteration a complete surprise? Did grandma know before she saw it? Either way I'm sure seeing it on her was amazing. Super sweet.”

Another user agreed with the sentiments of the original commenter, saying what the bride did was “so purely sweet” for them.

Despite the positive comments, there were also negative ones, as some users thought that altering the dress into a two-piece set was inappropriate.

“Why on earth did you think it was ok to cut and ruin your mothers wedding dress,” one commented.

One user even noted that the dress was “damaged” because of the alteration, writing, “She damaged the dress and the good memories of her mother. I thought It was the exact dress, not that destroyed thing.”

Fortunately for the bride, there were still people who got her back and defended her for her actions, with one account saying people don’t have the right to share hate comments on her special day.

Dalena clarified in her original post that the dress was only used for the rehearsal, and based on the photos she shared on her Instagram account, she wore a different dress on the day of the wedding.
