Bride Breaks Down In Tears After Finding That Wedding Cake Is Made From Polystyrene Foam

Jan 08, 2019 by apost team

Weddings are usually one of the most special days in someone's life. For guests at weddings, it's a wonderful thing to witness two people share their love with their nearest and dearest, which makes them not only special for the bride and groom but for everyone included.

Because of how special the day is, it makes sense that the bride and groom want it to go just perfectly. However, that can create a lot of pressure and stress when things don't go according to plan.

Many couples do their best to plan a perfect wedding that lives up to their high expectations but nevertheless, most weddings have at least a few minor glitches. However, some weddings are unfortunately disastrous. This was the case when one couple's wedding reception was completely ruined by their wedding cake, which, in a wild turn of events, turned out to be made from Polystyrene foam.

Philippines couple Shine Tamayo, 26, and Jhon Chen, 40, had planned their fairytale wedding in Pasig City in 2019. As is common, they hired a wedding coordinator to assist with some of the details. Specifically, the fee they paid to the coordinator was supposed to cover all of the food and decorations for the event. This included a meal for the guests and a wedding cake. They paid 140,000 pesos (about $2,667) for the services, which is no small amount, especially in the Philippines.

When the big day arrived, the wedding ceremony was almost perfect in every way. But unfortunately, the same could not be said for the reception.

The bride and groom and all of their happy guests arrived at the hotel where the reception would be held. When they walked into the room, the couple was dismayed to discover that no food was available for their guests to eat and that the wedding coordinator had no intention of following through on their promise to provide a delicious meal.

The embarrassed couple had to think quickly and try to make the best of the situation. In the end, they sent someone down the street to pick up takeout food from the closest restaurant. The food was understandably not the quality that the couple had hoped for, but at least they had a beautiful, delicious wedding cake to serve to their guests.

As the reception continued and guests sipped on blackcurrant juice, the bride and groom began the wedding tradition of slicing into their wedding cake together. That's when things went from bad to worse. As they sliced through the decorative icing and the knife cut through the material underneath, the couple and their guests were shocked to realize the two-tiered wedding cake was not a cake at all. It was a chunk of Polystyrene foam covered in icing.

This was the straw that broke the camel's back for the bride, who immediately broke down in tears. Upset at how her dream wedding had turned out and embarrassed in front of all of her guests, the bride was inconsolable, so her family and friends decided to take action. They took her and the fake cake to the local police station to report the fraudulent activity that had taken place.

At the police station, the distraught bride told the officers that their wedding coordinator, a woman named Krissa Cananea, had ruined her wedding. She paid this woman to provide food and a cake for her wedding reception, and the woman failed to do so. In the process, she ruined what was supposed to be the most magical and memorable day of her life. A short video of the scene at the police station was released online and it's simply heartbreaking to watch. The video has been viewed over 880,000 times and commenters were very upset for the bride and groom.

And while the couple can't get their wedding day back, they did get some justice. As reported by the Daily Mail, the bride said she wished to pursue legal action. She stated:

"I will not accept sorry from her, an apology is not good enough, she needs to go to jail because she ruined my wedding. I have never been so humiliated in all my life. This was supposed to be one of my most treasured memories for my entire life. Instead it is the worst."

Fortunately, the Pasig County Police Station sided with the newlyweds and they confirmed that Cananea had been arrested for Estafa, which is a kind of fraud. They said at the time:

"The investigation into the wedding fraud is ongoing. The bride was very distressed by her cake and the food. We have confirmed that a large amount of money was paid for the service which was not delivered adequately. The provider, Miss Krissa Cananea, has been interviewed and we intend to take the case to a trial."

However, since then, there have unfortunately been no updates to the story, so it's unclear how the case ended. Our heart goes out to the couple.
