Bride Angers Sister With 'Attendance Requirements' For Her Wedding: No Entry Without $300 Gift

Mar 28, 2022 by apost team

It is understandable to want to have a perfect wedding, but at a certain point, a bride or groom can go too far with their demands and ruin the occasion for everyone. This is what happened to one Reddit user that posted on a forum asking if they were wrong for not going to their sister's wedding due to her attitude. The bride has made up a list of outrageous "attendance requirements" for her guests, and the rules are way over the top.

A lot of the requirements the bride listed had to do with the appearance of her wedding guests. For instance, she mentioned that there are certain colors that are not allowed to be worn, no facial hair allowed, and women with shoulder-length hair or longer must have it cut or be worn tied up.

The most excessive requirement was that a gift valued at $300 or more must be provided to enter the venue. After the gift requirements were listed, the bride and groom included a message letting their guests know that anyone who breaks these rules will be asked to leave.

The bride's sibling was shocked to read these rules and at first thought that they must be a joke. But, their parents assured them that the requirements were very real and must be followed. The post's author was outraged by the requirements and stated they would not be attending the wedding in protest. Their parents even offered to pay for their gift, but the bride's sibling still does not want to go.

Now, the original poster is being called selfish by their family and they are beginning to wonder if they are in the wrong in this situation. Keep reading to learn more about this nightmare wedding.

The OP wrote in their post that their sister had been quite a handful throughout the wedding planning. The author wrote:

"My sister is getting married in less than 3 weeks. I haven't been involved in the planning as I have my own life but from what my mom has relaid to me it's been a nightmare. My sister wants a 'fancy' wedding and is micro-managing everything. I have no idea how normal this is but from what I've heard she broke down crying when her fiance bought the wrong shade of white napkins."

The bride's requests were too invasive, including her demand that women cut their long hair. "An email was sent out to everyone invited to the wedding with 'attendance requirements.' These requirements were a joke. Some of them were just nonsensical like what color ties are and aren't allowed or that no one can talk to the wife or groom alone. But some were absurd like the fact that no one is supposed to take pictures except the photographer for the whole event, no facial hair will be allowed or you will not be pictured, or that any women with shoulder-length or longer hair must have it cut or wear it in a ponytail," the post reads.

One requirement that shocked the bride's sibling was the mandatory gift to enter the event. The OP wrote:

"The worst though was the 'gift requirements.'. According to the email, a gift of $300 value or more MUST be given (or $250 cash) or you will not be allowed into the venue. The email also ends with 'Those who choose not to follow these rules will be asked to leave. Please think of the bride and groom's wishes during this stressful time.'"

Commenters were just as outraged as the OP. One person said, "I would not go. 'Since my attendance at your wedding comes with a price tag, and it's clear you value gifts more than guests, count me out for both. Have a lovely wedding.'"

Another person wrote: "She doesn't care about having friends and family there, she cares about being selfish, getting as much out of it as possible, and the people are only there to make them feel good. Not only would I not go, I would sincerely hope everyone else refuses to go as well. (If) they want nobody to look better than them, then have nobody else there. If the point of getting married is simply to get as much out of it as possible, you are getting married for the wrong reasons."

They added: "Saying that, my feelings are that if someone 'requires' some massive overblown expensive wedding, then perhaps they're not marrying for the right reasons. If you aren't happy marrying the person with a cheap wedding then something's gone wrong. Plus, spend the cash on something that truly matters, the house, your futures, not a fancy event that, after it's done, nobody will really care about years down the line."

Other commenters suggested that no one should attend this wedding. A third Reddit user responded: "Clearly, sis should skip the humans and just fill the seats with perfectly groomed and attired mannequins. Bonus: they don't talk or take pictures! And mom and dad can foot the bill for X number of $300+ gifts."
