Shannen Doherty maintains a positive attitude amid her second terminal cancer diagnosis with the help of her supportive ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ costar, Brian Austin Green.

You know your colleague is more than just a work friend when they give you their full support at a time you need it the most. Such is the case for Brian and Shannen.

At the Annual Open Hearts Gala in Beverly Hills over the weekend, Brian shared details about Shannen's mental state as she battles stage four breast cancer.

Speaking with US Weekly, the 46-year-old actor says that her situation is hard, but she’s strong and that “she’ll get through this and get out of this what she’s supposed to get out of this.”

In an interview with ABC News, the actress said she had chosen to keep her health trouble in the dark because she had just lost Luke Perry – who was seemingly healthy – to a stroke back in March 2019. Luke had starred alongside Shannen and Brian in BH90210.

She shares that her other reason for staying silent was that she didn’t want to get ‘special treatment’ from the people around her, especially at work.

“One of the reasons, along with Luke, that I did '90210' and didn't really tell anybody because I thought, people can look at that other people with stage four can work too. Like, you know, our life doesn't end the minute we get that diagnosis. We still have some living to do."

While she kept her diagnosis a secret, telling only the closest people in her life, Shannen said she leaned on Brian to help her get through the long, grueling days on set. She reveals that she had moments of great anxiety while spending 15-16 hours filming on set where she thought to herself: "I can’t really do this."

“Brian was the one person who – of that group of people that knew – that I told, like, pretty quickly and said, ‘...this is what I'm dealing with,’” she said.

“So prior to shooting he would always call me and say, ‘Listen, you know, whatever happens, I have your back.’ He would look at me and be like, ‘We got this, kiddo.’ So Brian helped me through a lot.”

In a post on her instagram, Shannen writes that she’ll dig deep for the inner strength she needs to face it all. She continues, “I pray I do it all with dignity and grace. I have so much to say. So much to share. I will. For now… please know how much you all help lift me.”

Life is much better when you have supportive friends to lean on when the going gets tough. Staying positive when you’re fighting terminal cancer is an incredible thing to do, and Shannen is a true inspiration. Remember to always tell your family and friends that you love and appreciate them whenever you can.
