The instinct to protect one's young is strong among human and animal mothers. The story of a cat in the Bronx area of New York began making its way around the internet in April after she risked her life to keep them safe until they found themselves in a better situation.

There are many types of animals that can quickly turn deadly when it comes to protecting their young. While this is a common behavior among predators, it is every seen in many "weaker" prey species who have been witnessed going to great lengths to keep their offspring safe.

A Furry Family In Need Of Help

Little Wanderers in New York City was recently able to witness a mother cat fiercely protecting her young in a "dirty Bronx backyard". As soon as the rescuers saw the family, they knew they needed help because it just wasn't a good and safe environment for the cat to try to raise kittens. They needed to act quickly to move them and a volunteer named Ariana at the rescue rushed over to find the family.

As soon as Ariana tried to get closer, the momma cat took off trying to get her babies to safety. Ariana was able to quickly capture some of the kittens but knew that she would have to be able to get the rest of the family to call the rescue a success. After setting out a humane trap in the backyard that contained food, she returned the next day to find the rest of them.

While waiting to capture the rest of the kittens, Antoinette, a volunteer who fosters animals, took in the small kittens and began cleaning them, feeding them, and treating their fleas. They quickly got used to living indoors and began enjoying their comfy bed and were not shy about the situation.

The Reunion

After reuniting the kittens with their newly rescued mom, they began immediately nursing and enjoying being together again. The volunteer fostering the family, Antoinette, stated to Love Meow that they love to explore and play with all of the toys they provided. In addition to helping these loving cats that swarm them everywhere they go, she is happy to be able to use the opportunity to teach her children how to be responsible through fostering them.

There were four kittens in the litter that was protected by the strong momma cat. The litter consisted of an orange kitten named Sterling, a gray kitten named Sutton, a cream Siamese named Savannah with a pink nose, and a cream Siamese named Silas with a gray nose. After being rescued, all four of them began growing very quickly! After just a week, they were already discovering a love of cuddles, climbing cat trees, and essentially ruling the house.

Little Wanderers NYC stated on their Facebook that their volunteers spent hours facilitating the rescue of Remony and her four kittens. Keeping families together is very important to their mission and they were excited to be able to provide such a happy ending for the adorable kittens and mom.

While the little family may have gotten a rough start, they are now safe and can be seen in several adorable videos online. They went from living a hard life in a dirty Bronx backyard to being comfortable and happy after being rescued. Without the mother's love and dedication, there is a chance that these babies would have never made it to be where they are today.
