Cancer is a scary diagnosis for anyone, but when a child is diagnosed it's especially frightening. Their immune systems are much weaker than adults that are diagnosed, making their fight against cancer even tougher.
For one little girl in Michigan, she not only chose to face cancer head-on, she also decided to help others battling the same disease.
Emerson Hoogendoorn, a 7-year-old from Grand Rapids, was diagnosed with brain cancer and has been on an experimental drug that has shrunk her tumor down to just 12 percent.
Emerson, whose name means "brave", has made it her mission to other young cancer patients facing a similar diagnosis. Ever since she began experiencing headaches and double vision, this inspiring little girl has been on a quest to raise money for kids just like her.

According to FOX17, What started off as a simple project of making crafts with her grandparents has turned into a full-fledged business venture with all sorts of items like bracelets, t-shirts, wind chimes, and even food items like lemonade and cookies.
Emerson then shares the profits with Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, located in Grand Rapids. The money raised from Emerson's business goes towards buying toys for the children's hospital. Emerson also donates some of the proceeds to the research organization that prescribed her life-saving medication.
This little 7-year-old spitfire is truly remarkable. The fact that her experimental cancer drug is working has given Emerson renewed energy and a passion to continue her important work.
Her name definitely suits her well. The bravery coursing through Emerson's veins is the same that is found in many young cancer patients. The grueling treatment they face is necessary, but it's not easy.
The toys that Emerson's business provides to the hospital help to make those painful treatments and long, lonely days a bit easier on the children there. With her tough spirit and drive, there's no limit to what Emerson can accomplish.
She hopes to continue her work for young cancer patients for as long as possible. Emerson's grandparents and the staff at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital plan on supporting her any way they can.
