Boyfriend Thinks GF May Be Cheating After She Lies About Her Whereabouts, But Situation Takes Wholesome Turn

White lies may seem harmless, but there are times when telling a half-truth can spiral out of control and people end up with their feelings hurt. A man on Reddit posted a story about a lie that his girlfriend told him while he was shopping for her engagement ring. He shared the story so he could get some relationship advice, and later updated the post with the wholesome ending none of us were expecting.

The man starts off his story by explaining that he will often seek out the help of his girlfriend’s friends when it is time to pick out jewelry. This is why he asked her friend Justine to assist with choosing an engagement ring. While checking in with his girlfriend, she mentioned that she was with Justine, which was impossible because the boyfriend was still ring shopping with her.  

This lie weighed on him, as he usually has a very open and honest relationship with his girlfriend. Many people commenting on the story worried that the girlfriend was cheating, or suggested that she could be ring shopping as well. 

After seeking out advice on Reddit, the boyfriend decided to confront his girlfriend about the lie she told. The look on her face when he revealed that he was looking for an engagement ring was priceless.  

When it came time for her to fess up about where she was, the girlfriend admitted that she was working on a surprise of her own. The secret she was keeping was incredibly unexpected. Keep reading to find out what the girlfriend was up to when she told the white lie.

The man summed up his predicament with the title of his Reddit post. He wrote, “My girlfriend told me she was with a friend, but that friend was with me picking out an engagement ring. How do I confront my girlfriend about her lie?”

The boyfriend knew he needed help with finding the right engagement ring, so he asked the person who knows his girlfriend the best, her best friend. “Now, I suck at picking out jewelry … So every time I want to buy something for my girl, I usually consult one of our mutual friends. My girl's best friends are all friends with me as well and we all get along well, so asking them for help picking out jewelry is something I'm used to,” he explained in his post.

After a couple of hours, the man wanted to check in with his soon-to-be fiancee to see when she would be coming home. He said, “She responded by saying it would be a few hours, she met up with Justine to go shopping. Now, obviously, this took me by surprise since Justine was standing inside my house. I showed Justine the text, and she looked as confused as I was.”

The girlfriend acted like nothing was going on when she returned home, and this hurt the man as he knew she was lying. He decided to turn to Reddit for advice. The boyfriend wrote, “I don't know what to do. My girlfriend and I have zero trust issues and we tell each other everything, so this lie is killing me. I want to ask her about it so bad, but if I tell her I knew she was lying, I'd have to explain why, and I really don't want to do that. What do I do?”

After talking to his girlfriend about what happened, the man updated his Reddit post. He said, “I decided to confront my girlfriend … I basically just said that I knew we'd been thinking about marriage and she probably knew a proposal was coming soon so I invited Justine over to help me find her the perfect ring, and that so happened to be the day that she said she was going to see her, so... what's the deal?”

He went on, adding, “She immediately started grinning like an idiot and prodding me about proposing and the ring, but then we got back onto the topic of where she was and she confessed what she was really doing. No, she wasn't cheating, and no, she wasn't picking out a ring for me (the amount of times that was commented was crazy).”

The explanation of where the girlfriend was when she lied is incredibly wholesome. “So, some people are dog people and some people are cat people. Well, me, I'm a snake person. I grew up with snakes my whole life. But I never felt I was able to get one because my girlfriend has always been uneasy about living with a snake which I completely respected,” the man wrote.

Finally, the boyfriend revealed the truth. He shared, “Needless to say, my girlfriend was going to surprise me with a snake! We're picking her up next week. I definitely did not expect this and I feel bad for ruining the surprise, but oh well. Life is good!”
