In this most joyous time of year, it is important to remember what it was like to be a child. Children are innocent, pure human beings, seeing the world not in shades of gray but with love and compassion. One child's compassion is at the heart of a story out of Mexico and should be taken as an example for how we should behave. In the 2019 video, a boy with Down syndrome comforts another child with autism.

The video begins with both children sitting at a desk in white school uniforms. The little boy on the right is visibly upset as the student on the left notices his sadness. The child with Down syndrome wipes some of the tears from his friend’s eyes, later rubbing his nose. Inching closer, the little boy on the left then throws his arms up and gives the boy with autism a big hug. The hug goes on for several moments as the little boy rubs his friend’s back.

As the video goes on, the boy on the left picks up his friend’s arms and begins holding them and waving them around in a playful manner. Calming music then begins to flood the classroom. The video ends with the boy with Down syndrome once again wiping away tears from his friend’s eyes.

After the teacher posted the video to Facebook, it quickly spread across the internet, having been watched over 20 million times. Those who have seen the video applaud the school for encouraging compassion and understanding at their institution. Others say that the world can learn all it needs to from the pure hearts of both boys.

In the United States, about 6,000 are born with Down syndrome every year, which is about 1 in every 700 babies born, according to the CDC.
