Darrien Middleton is a nurse who works in the emergency room. She enjoys visiting her Nana Wilma as often as she can when she has time off. Unfortunately, she isn't able to provide the care for her that she needs every day.

Fortunately, there is someone who is already watching over Wilma when Darrien is unable to care for her.

About two years ago, Wilma received the news that she had lung cancer. She decided to go ahead and have surgery to try to remove the tumor. During the surgery, part of her lung had to be removed so that the cancer wouldn't spread. Unfortunately, Wilma was told only six months later that she had breast cancer as well. Wilma is a fighter. She has endured two different types of cancer in just a short time, and she continues to view life with a positive outlook.

Darrien has tried to persuade her nana that it would be better if she moved in with her so that Darrien could keep an eye on her all the time. Being the stubborn woman that she is, Wilma didn't want to move in with Darrien and burden her life. Besides, she had been in her home for almost 40 years.

Darrien knows that her nana enjoys living in her home. She likes to work outside, and she likes talking to the people who live near her. Wilma doesn't live in the best community, and some people have called it unsafe. It was soon discovered that there was a bright spot in Wilma's life.

Darrien works long hours and goes to school. It's been hard for her to make sure her nana gets to appointments and is cared for in the way that she deserves. Wilma's neighbors have stepped in to help by making sure she is safe and by taking her to appointments that Darrien and the family can't take her to during the week.

One little boy named Caleb enjoys going to see Wilma whenever he can. Wilma shares her food with him, and she gives him special attention when he visits. Caleb is a young boy who enjoys talking to other people, especially those who are older.

He gives Wilma love and companionship that she sometimes doesn't get from other people since she lives alone. When asked why he visits, Caleb just wants to know that Wilma wakes up each day and wants to make sure she's alright.
