A photo taken of a young boy and a grown man sharing a meal together at a Mexican restaurant in Mississippi has been capturing hearts across the world. Two parents, Amy and Robert Wadford took their children to a restaurant named Fernando’s in Magee, Mississippi, in April to spend some time together while enjoying dinner. Their 2-year-old son, Brekken, saw a man, Ladarius Sandifer, sitting alone by a window in the restaurant and wanted to sit with him.

For most people, eating can be a social event. Going out for a nice meal is a fun way to spend time together. It’s also a great opportunity to treat yourself and your loved ones for a night. Although some people enjoy this social time with friends and family, there are a few people who enjoy the peace that comes with having a meal alone. If Sandifer was dining at Fernando’s was looking for that tranquil alone time, he didn’t have much of a chance to have it. In fact, Sandifer himself actually encouraged Brekken to come over to his table, sparking a newfound friendship.

Brekken’s random act of kindness captured not only Sandifer’s heart but the hearts of people everywhere. His pure sweetness has been a light for many during some pretty difficult times. The encounter was luckily captured in a photograph by Amy and has been circulating the internet since, inspiring others to continue to be kind with one another. Random acts of kindness can make someone’s day, and this adorable young boy in Mississippi has proven that.

For some reason, 2-year-old Brekken desperately wanted to have dinner with Sandifer who was sitting next to the window at Fernando’s. The two were strangers before sharing a meal together and having a fun conversation at the restaurant. Although Brekken wanted to sit with Sandifer, his mother did not want to disturb him, according to WGNTV. Luckily for Brekken, Sandifer was open to the idea.

After the toddler began crying, Sandifer decided to invite him over to sit down and join him at his table. “He tapped his mother about four times and told his mom, ‘I want to sit with him, mommy,’ and I told them just to bring him on over here,” Sandifer said in an interview with WJTV News. During the interview, Sandifer sat with Amy, Robert and Brekken as they talked about their newfound friendship.

Amy was amazed at the situation and watched on happily. “They sat there and had a conversation like they were best friends,” she said. “Sitting right there talking about the cars in the parking lot.” The encounter was short-lived, but it sparked a beautiful new friendship between the two of them and the rest of Brekken’s family. According to KCRG, Amy and Sandifer now speak regularly.

“We definitely could have said, ‘No, you can’t sit with him. Absolutely not,’ but it was hurting nothing,” Amy said. “We were all there.” Sandifer at the Wadford family all agreed that simple acts of kindness can really make a difference in someone’s day, according to WGNTV. “Sometimes people need that to brighten their day,” Amy said.

In a Facebook post on April 23, 2021, the boy’s mother talked about their experience while dining at the restaurant. “I’m not sure who this man is and I’m sure he just wanted to eat his meal in peace, but Brekken had other plans,” she began. “We took all six kids to eat at Fernando’s, and all Brekken wanted was to eat with him.” The mother continued with her story. “He was continuously crying and as I got up to take him to the car, this man asked to get him,” Amy said. “Brekken instantly stopped crying and sat and ate chips and salsa, and had a conversation with him until he was ready to go.”

Brekken and the gentleman at the restaurant seemed to get on really well from the moment they met, as they spent some time together enjoying each other’s company. “Brekken was completely content and told him ‘bye’ like he had known him his whole life,” Amy said about the experience. “It’s the small things!” The mother finished her social media post encouraging others to thank the kind man if they knew him, as he had “completely made Brekken’s whole day.” Since its original upload, the sweet photo has been shared over 90 thousand times and has well over 10 thousand comments.

Even though this family and a kind gentleman had an unexpected meeting and their time together was short, their relationship has since blossomed into a real friendship. The Wadfords and Sandifer have stayed in contact, proving that one small, simple act of kindness can go a long way. The sweet gesture from Brekken not only impacted Sandifer and the rest of his day but inspired many people around the world to be a little kinder to one another.
