Boy Sends Piggy Bank Savings To Police, Officers Search For The Generous Child

Dec 29, 2021 by apost team

Those who work in public service rarely get recognized for their hard work. One young boy went out of his way during the holiday season in 2021 to show the police officers in his town that he appreciates all of what they do. William Hernandez sent the police department in Hollywood, Florida, all of the money from his piggy bank along with a handmade card that thanked them for their service.

The officers were so touched by the gift that they made a post about it on their social media page and hoped that someone could connect them with Hernandez. They said that he did not include his return address with the card and money, but the police department wanted to find him so they could give him some goodies and meet him in person.

The Facebook post from the small-town police department gained a lot of attention. The story was picked up by the nightly news, and thanks to all of the coverage, Hernandez and his parents saw that the police were looking for him. Hernandez and his parents went down to the police station to introduce themselves and brought breakfast for all of the officers.

The police department gifted Hernandez some gear to represent the Hollywood Police Department and also gave him a tour of their vehicles. Hernandez was also surprised by some officers on Christmas where they surely gave him some more gifts. The department said that the money the boy sent would be used for their Explorer program. After receiving the card from Hernandez, the police officers’ hearts were touched. They knew this young boy was special and wanted to thank him properly.

They wrote on Facebook:

“We need our (community's) help! William Hernandez sent us money from his piggy bank for the holiday season and our hearts have melted. There is no return address and we would LOVE to get in contact with him and his family to send him some goodies!! If you know who this may be, please send us a private message. His piggy bank money will go toward our Explorer program!”

A week after making their original post, the department sent out an update.

They said: “We were lucky enough to finally meet the sweet boy who selflessly gave his piggy bank money in a holiday card to our Department! He saw through recent TV news stories that we wanted to meet him, so he showed up to the Police Department to introduce himself. We all know he has a heart of gold, and he even brought our officers breakfast when he came to introduce himself.”

The post continued, “We made him an awesome goody bag with a bunch of HPD gear in it, gave him a tour of some of our vehicles, he was able to hang out with some of our detectives, and then our officers surprised him on Christmas! At the request of the family, he will remain our ‘Secret Santa.’ We just wanted to share with everyone the joy he brought our Department this holiday season. He will always be a part of our HPD family.”
