Boy Lets His Three-Year-Old Sister Shave His Head In Support Of Her Battle Against Cancer

Texas resident Kristin Bowden is a photographer who captured the heartwarming moment when her son, Kohen, got his request to get his head shaved fulfilled in support of his three-year-old sister, Lula Beth and her battle with cancer. She posted a series of the beautiful occasion to Facebook on June 5th.

Kristin Bowden, a photographer from Texas captured the heartwarming moment when her son, Kohen, had his head shaved. He had specially requested it, to support his three-year-old sister Lula on her battle with cancer.

When the Bowden family was informed that Lula Beth will suffer from hair loss due to chemo, Kristin explained to her daughter that she might have to shave off all her hair just as she does for Kohen for his buzzcut. To Kristin's surprise, Lula Beth replied with: "Let's do it right now!" Kohen and Lula's father, Dakota, also joined in, and had not just his head, but his facial hair shaved.

Kristin also expressed how moved she was when Kohen asked if he could have his head shaved like his sister's writing on Facebook: "Best. Brother. Ever. Hands down!"

Documenting their ordeal on Facebook, Kristin wrote,  “March 2020. The messiest month of our lives. Throughout March we visited different doctors’ offices at least six separate times. She was diagnosed with a UTI two-three times. RSV once. Flu-bug once. It just wasn’t adding up.” By March 23rd, they became desperate when they headed to the emergency room for more extensive tests.

The final results showed Lula Beth with a football-sized cancerous tumor that would require surgery to remove. “I will forever remember that feeling,” her mom wrote later. “Confusion. Heartbreak. The heaviest sadness. Denial. Shock. Scared. Numb. Completely numb.” Thankfully, Lula Beth’s prognosis was excellent, and she needed chemotherapy treatments for the next 22 weeks.

The toddler had surgery on March 26th, and after five long hours, her doctors were able to remove the entire mass. Soon in a few days later, the family got some good news that their three-year-old daughter had stage two Wilms tumor, which was “very curable and treatable.”

Toward the end of May, Lula Beth completed her weekly rounds of chemo treatment. The bigger news is that she had a first clean scan!

Kristin wrote:

"She teaches me so much daily. What matters, what does not. She is so strong and through this trial has been the light to our whole family. I strive to be more like her every single day. She is so brave. She is so strong. She isn’t letting anything get her down. We are continually thanking God for all of these blessings and answers to our prayers. My beautiful, brave baby girl. I love you so much."
