Boy Forgot He Threw Message Into Ocean, Nine Years Later Stranger Mails Letter To Childhood Home

Even though lots of people place messages in bottles and throw them into the ocean, very few actually expect to get a response. However, in spite of the odds against it, a Massachusetts man recently got quite a surprise when he received a response to a letter that he placed in a bottle when he was only 9 years old.

Now a 19-year-old college student, Max Vredenburgh was notified by his father that he had received a letter all the way from France, ABC News reported. Inside was a response to a letter that Max had placed inside of a bottle he tossed into the Atlantic Ocean from a beach in Rockport, Massachusetts.

In his initial letter, dated August 21, 2010, Max asked whoever found the bottle to please respond and included his home mailing address. He also gave information about his likes and interests, including facts like his favorite color being blue, his love for animals, and his interest in outer space.

According to the letter sent from France, a certain G. Dubois found the letter on a beach in France on October 10, 2019. G. Dubois notes that Max must have changed quite a bit in the 9 years that have passed since he penned his original message. The message remained in remarkably good shape considering that it was tossed about in the ocean for so many years on a journey that covered more than 4,000 miles.

Max is thrilled with the response. "I was, like: 'Are you kidding me?" he told Boston ABC affiliate WCVB.

After sharing both messages on social media, his post went viral and he has since connected online with the person in France who found the bottle.
