Most of us know at least one person in our circle that bites nails. You could be the victim here or at least was a victim when you were a child. It’s like an addiction that could take ages to resist and put in the past.

In fact, most people had this habit when they were kids but gradually outgrew it. It’s nothing to be ashamed of seeing that a significant percentage relate. Seeing that this is a common problem among many kids, parents are likely to ignore the repercussions of this habit.

Sara Guidry, like many of you, is a parent with a child fond of biting nails. However, she comes forward with some warning news that should help parents check their kid’s oral status especially if they bite nails. According to a segment by The Drs, Her son Kale complained of his hurting gums. As a mother, she decided to check what could be the problem. She reached for a flashlight and examined the status of the hurting gums.

Kale’s gums showed some signs of inflammation and redness but what’s even more shocking was the origin of the pain. Sara saw some debris stuck on her son’s gums and her curiosity led her to take a pair of tweezers and pluck out one for further investigation. She plucked out a fingernail which explained the reason for Kale’s frequent complaints about gum pains.

Sara went further to examine Kale’s mouth, and she found another, plucked it out, reviewed again and repeated the process thirty-two times! While nail-biting looks like an innocent habit, it evidently turned out to be dangerous to Kale after her mother managed to pluck out 32 fingernails in one oral space! She figured they had accumulated over time and eventually caused the pain with further piercing and pressure from every additional stuck nail.

The dentist explained that Kale might have got all those fingernails stuck from playing with his tongue and pushing them in between teeth. Most of the parents reading Sara’s post were shocked at how a common habit could be so dangerous to a child. It is therefore vital for every parent to have the right information about nail biting and the consequences that your child could be facing. Sara warned parents to be more observant, read the red flags and help kids get over the habit to prevent them from harming themselves.

We are sure you are equally as shocked as we were after reading Sara’s story. What do you think of the mothers actions? Would you have done the same? Or do you think he ought to have gone straight to the dentist's office? Let us know in the comments - and make sure you pass this along to your friends and family!
