Losing weight is difficult for anyone. Everyone has a different body type and trying to look your best is no easy task, especially when you’re constantly bombarded with unhealthy food options.

One Ohio teen recently proved that he has the ability to control his weight and his health, having lost over 100 pounds.

17-year-old Michael Watson is a senior at Canton, Ohio’s William McKinley Senior High School. The young man has struggled with weight all of his life, having weighed 325 pounds at just 16 years old. When he started high school, Michael recalled looking at himself and realizing that he had gone very far down a dangerous and unhealthy path.

Thus, Michael became determined to lose weight, the decision coming not from bullying from his peers but from his own realization that he needed to lose weight to lead a healthy lifestyle. Michael was also inspired by his brother, Richard, who also struggled with weight and lost a massive 50 pounds a few years earlier.

One of the most important factors in Michael’s new lifestyle involved eating healthy. Speaking with reporters from Fox 8, Michael said that he used to indulge in pizza and pasta, but now eats oatmeal each morning for breakfast and eggs for lunch each day.

In addition to eating healthy, Michael also developed an exercise regimen that involved walking to and from school every day. Michael makes the trip, which encompasses about five miles, rain or shine. Thanks to his hard work and persistence, Michael lost 115 pounds.

Thomas Hill, principal of William McKinley High School, congratulated Michael on all his success in an interview with reporters. To make sure that every student gets the recognition they deserve, Hill created the Senior Limelight award, which celebrates one graduating student each day in the month of May for any type of accomplishment. Terrance Jones, a family support specialist, made sure to nominate Michael for the recognition.

Jones told reporters that Michael’s weight loss journey was not your typical story, and that he was very proud that the teen had beat the odds by losing the weight and keeping a healthy lifestyle. When asked for tips for those trying to lose weight, Michael said that state of mind is the most important thing, saying that you have to want to become healthy.
