Boston Terrier Saves Baby Girl's Life After She Stops Breathing And Turns Blue

Dec 17, 2021 by apost team

A Boston terrier named Henry is being hailed a hero after the dog saved a child’s life. As the Daily Mail reports, Kelly Andrew of Boston, Massachusetts, was taking care of her baby girl, who was sick, when Henry wouldn’t let up.

The Boston terrier continually opened the door to the baby’s room, seemingly concerned about her health. The publication further reports that Andrew was “fed up” with Henry’s behavior, and so she tried to get the dog out of the room to allow the baby to rest.

That’s when Andrew noticed that something was wrong — all thanks to Henry’s persistence. Andrew’s baby was turning blue, a sign that her daughter wasn’t getting enough oxygen.

Luckily, Andrew and her husband acted quickly, rushing their daughter to the hospital, where she made a full recovery after doctors cleared the child’s airway.

Andrew tweeted about her dog’s heroism on Dec. 14, and her post quickly went viral.

“Last night the dog kept breaking into the nursery and waking the baby. She’s been sick, and I was getting so fed up with him. Until she stopped breathing,” Andrew wrote.

“We spent the night in the hospital. I don’t know what would have happened if he hadn’t woken her. We don’t deserve dogs,” she added.

Since tweeting her story, Andrew’s post has received over 200,000 likes and over 20,000 retweets — not to mention plenty of replies. Her story has also been picked up by local, national and international media. If there’s one thing that Andrew’s story makes clear, it’s that animals truly are amazing.

Andrew offered more details about the incident in an interview with Eyewitness News 3.

She explained that she and her husband took their daughter to urgent care earlier in the week, as her fever was spiking. The doctors found fluid in her lungs but said that she could go home as long as they would monitor the situation and talk to their pediatrician later in the week. The day after is when Henry began to sound the alarm.

"I could hear his head hit the door and I could see her bedroom door from downstairs swing open. I knew he had gone inside so I shooed him away," Andrew told the local news outlet. "And that persisted until he woke her up.”

"She started to cry and her cry was strange. I brought her downstairs and I could tell she was really struggling, so we tried suctioning some of what was in there out, which is what they tell you to do, but she started to turn blue, rigid," Andrew added.

Thankfully, Andrew’s child made a full recovery, though Dr. John Brancato of Connecticut Children's Medical Center said that the baby was “struggling badly.”

"To my knowledge, the baby is doing very well,” Brancato said. And when asked whether he thought Henry knew something was wrong, Brancato answered in the affirmative.

“I think he did, because that was very abnormal for him to keep pushing his way into the room after he was told not to," the doctor said

Andrew told the outlet that she’s thankful that Henry was there.

"If he had done nothing and she struggled in there on her own, who knows what could have happened, so I am definitely glad he ended up waking her up.”
