Sad news this week: Boo, "the world's cutest dog," passed away on January 18th at the age of 12. The Pomeranian became a global internet sensation shortly after he was born in 2006. The dog's adorable fur, round face and glossy black eyes made him look like a stuffed animal, and millions around the world fell in love with him.

Boo also had a best friend, another Pomeranian named Buddy. The duo was inseparable, and there are hundreds of photos that feature the two dogs side-by-side. Buddy passed away in 2017, and Boo's owners believe he's the reason why Boo ultimately died.

In an Instagram post announcing his death, Boo's owners wrote that the pup "left us to join his best friend, Buddy."

The post continues, “Our family is heartbroken, but we find comfort knowing that he is no longer in any pain or discomfort."

Studies show that in humans, heartache can become a physical condition. That seems to be the case with Boo. His owners revealed on Instagram that after Buddy's passing, Boo began to experience heart complications. They believe the cause was that "his heart literally broke" after his best friend crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

While Boo's owner has never officially revealed their identity, they went above and beyond to make sure Boo and Buddy lived their best lives together.

At the height of his career, Boo made multiple guest appearances on shows like "Good Morning America" and Anderson Cooper's "RedicuList." In 2011, the owner published a book, "Boo: The World's Cutest Dog," under the pen name J.H. Lee.

Although he's no longer on earth, Boo's impact will not be forgotten. He brought joy and happiness to millions of people around the world, leaving a lasting impression that will live on in spirit.
