Bonnie Chapman Accused Father Of Betraying Late Mother But Supported His New Engagement

Duane Chapman, who is better known as Dog the Bounty Hunter, has lived an eventful life. He gained international notoriety after he captured Andrew Luster in 2003 and was given his own reality television series in 2004. The show was called “Dog the Bounty Hunter” and it aired until 2012. Following that series, Duane appeared on “Dog and Beth: On the Hunt” which featured his late wife, Beth Chapman.

Duane has been married six times and Beth was his fifth wife. They were first married in 2006 and were together until Beth’s passing from throat cancer in 2019. A few months after Beth’s death, Duane announced that he would be getting remarried to Francie Frane. Duane and Beth’s daughter, Bonnie Chapman, initially spoke in defense of her father’s engagement but was not invited to their wedding due to allegations that she made against her dad on social media after he was fired from a new series that was to be called “Dog Unleashed.”

Bonnie claimed that her father betrayed her late mother prior to her passing and also accused him of being racist and homophobic. Duane has spoken out against these accusations and denied everything Bonnie said. Duane and Frane were married in September 2021 without Bonnie being present at the event.

Duane’s daughter says that she is now speaking out against her father because her mother would have never supported his actions following her death. Bonnie claims she is honoring her mother’s memory with her honesty and that her father has become a man she does not recognize. Keep reading to see what Bonnie had to say about her father.

Family drama is incredibly challenging but Bonnie felt strongly that she needed to say something about Duane’s behavior. She wrote on her Facebook page in late August 2021:

“I know this may be a shock to some of the public, but you deserve the truth. I’m sorry for those who looked up to my father growing up. I’m sorry to those who truly thought he was a good man; I thought so too at some point...I believe my father, at some point, was making his best efforts to be a good man, which is why I’ve publicly ALWAYS defended him. I followed my mom's lead. I followed the strongest woman I’ve ever known.”

Bonnie said that she never spoke out against her father before because she didn’t want to lose her connection to him. “I had forgiven my father after my mother’s death for countless actions that I shouldn’t have. He would cheat on my mom all the time, and I hated him every time he did it, but I forgave him for that because I wanted a relationship with my dad,” she wrote.

Bonnie continued, “My mom was a true leader, and believe it or not; she kept my dad focused on his career…. She also kept him in line! She loved my father and did her best to make him the best man he could be. All too often, that job consisted of dealing with his near-constant infidelity with her friends and strangers while trying to teach him to be a better man. I don’t think that work was in vain; I think mom did change my dad. But that change vanished when my mom died.”

Bonnie ended her post by writing: “I said before that I really didn’t know why I wasn’t invited to my dad’s wedding. While I knew he was mad about being fired, he has only himself to blame. I thought my dad would be man enough to put family first, but it appears that man died with my mother.”

In an interview with ET from September 2021, Frane spoke about Bonnie not being invited to the wedding and said: "As hard as it is and as heartbreaking as it is, we had to make a decision that was very difficult for us. We've been through hell, him and I, in the past three years...And I am not going to allow our day to be ruined by this nonsense."

The “nonsense” Frane is referring to is Bonnie’s accusations against her father. Duane said that he believes his daughter has been brainwashed and that’s the reason for her statements. "As far as the idea that I’m being brainwashed, this is the dumbest thing my father has ever said. I didn’t believe he would go this far to discredit me so much as to say I was brainwashed. I am concerned about him," Bonnie told ET.

Duane also denied the allegations that he cheated on Beth while she was in the hospital. He said, "Beth was in the hospital three times. I was there every single second with her. I went home the night before she passed away with her mother and her sisters because they said, 'She won't pass away, Dog, with you standing there.’ So I left. Three hours later, she passed away. So when did I have time? I am a good man. I would have never done that."
