Tim Conway was a wonderful comedian known for his ability to make anyone laugh on "The Carol Burnett Show." He passed away earlier this year, and his friend and fellow comedian Bob Newhart penned a touching tribute to his old friend.

Conway passed away at the age of 85 in May, reports People, and left behind a legacy of laughs as a "comedian's comedian" and an ever-charming late-night show guest on top of his Carol Burnett Show appearances. He was also known for "McHale's Navy" and that's where he met his dear friend Bob Newhart.

Newhart celebrated the hilarious guy that Tim Conway was. He shared several anecdotes that illustrated Conway's natural ability to get laughs. One story was all the way back from childhood, which inspired Newhart to say "Anyone who grew up in that house had to be a comedian. That’s the kind of life he had."

"Tim grew up in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and his father thought that he was handy around the house. But he wasn’t. He decided to put in a doorbell. But he accidentally wired it in such a way that it rang all the time," wrote Newhart for Variety. "It only stopped ringing when someone was at the door. So it would be ringing all day, and when it finally went silent, Tim’s dad would say, “I’ll get it.”

He also commented on what became Conway's most beloved sketch on "The Carol Burnett Show," which was of a dentist who accidentally sticks himself with a needle full of a numbing agent while working on a patient.

It was a typical move by Conway to not practice the physical comedy part of the sketch with his co-star Harvey Korman until the live show. Korman, who played the patient, ended up giggling through the entire thing.

Bob Newhart admired Conway's fearlessness and recounted a story of going to a Rams game.

"He told me that he and five buddies of his went to a Rams game and they rented actual ram costumes. They tried to pass themselves off as the halftime entertainers. They thought they wouldn’t have to buy tickets. The guy at the gate said, “Hey, hey, hold on! We don’t have five rams here on the list!” That’s what I mean when I say he was fearless. He really would do anything. He could easily have paid for the ticket. It wasn’t about him saving money; it was just being a part of a stunt. It was a gag, and he wanted to be a part of it."

Newhart also fondly remembered the times off-camera when the gang would just get together every week and laugh, telling stories and telling jokes to each other as old friends do. Only this group included world-famous singers, actors, and comedians. With or without the cameras, Newhart said his friend was just about the laughter.

"Tim just loved laughter. He loved creating laughter. I think all comedians, they fall in love with that sound. It’s a beautiful, beautiful sound, and he just loved it. That was his goal in life."
