Blake Lively Looks Unidentifiable With Stark Bowl Cut

Nov 13, 2020 by apost team

Blake Lively's long flowing blonde locks have long become a trademark for the actress. But for her latest role in the film "The Rhythm Section," the 33-year-old sported a new hairstyle that gave her a totally different appearance: a brunette bowl cut. She looked so different that fans around the world could barely recognize her. This photo from January 2020 is certainly incredible to see!

Blake Lively plays the role of a grieving woman whose entire family was killed in a plane crash. When she finds out that the crash was not an accident she decides to seek revenge. To truly look the part of the character, who turns to unsavory habits such as drugs and prostitution in order to get through her pain, Lively had an extreme makeover.

Celebrity makeup artist, Vivian Baker, who won an Oscar for her skills in transforming Charlize Theron into Megyn Kelly for the film "Bombshell" was tasked with Lively's metamorphosis.

Lively told Vanity Fair, "It took hours and a ton of makeup to look rough and have these big eye bags. The whole point is, she’s not supposed to look sexy. She’s not an assassin or a trained operative; she’s a real human who’s experienced tragedy and is terrified. But it was fun to look completely different. The best part was to hear people say about me, ‘This is what she looks like with no makeup on,’ and it’s actually me wearing makeup to look awful. It just shows that we did our job in making things look so real."

For anyone thinking that Lively had cut off her luscious locks, it turns out that wasn't actually the case. Vivian Baker created a bespoke wig for Lively to wear for the role. The dark brown wavy bob, complete with fringe, and tired eye makeup make Lively look rundown and weary—a world away from what we're used to seeing.

Blake has tried out other looks in the past, and in some recent social media posts Blake has shown she can pull off any look she wants. This is demonstrated with an image of her, also from the film, where she is sporting a classy retro hairstyle and an auburn hair color that really suits her. She might even decide to keep it!

This film is the first time Lively has had a role that required her to exhibit gun-wielding skills and intense physical fight scenes. Speaking ar the film’s New York screening, Lively told Vanity Fair

“Doing this movie was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Every day I was like, 'Why am I doing this? I can’t pull this off.' There was so much training that went into this movie—like weapons training, learning the choreography for the fight scenes, and speaking with a British accent on top of that. But this movie has really helped me grow as an actor. It’s been one of the most rewarding jobs."

Reed Morano, who directed the film, wanted to shoot single long takes, reports Vanity Fair. Having fewer cuts meant that Lively and her costar, Jude Law, were required to undertake their own stuntwork. Lively explained the reality of this in her speech: "It’s really me experiencing all the action that my character goes through. It’s really me fighting against Jude, and being in a car chase, and swimming in a lake that was six degrees, and being rigged to an exploding bus. I’m not going to lie; it was really nerve-racking!"

A testament to Lively's dedication to the role is the hand injury she sustained while filming a four-minute-long fight scene with Law. She shattered her hand punching his elbow. The injury was serious enough to require surgery and physiotherapy. It also meant the movie’s production needed to be suspended for six months, reports Cinema Blend.

"Jude and I really went for it, and I somehow hurt my hand. I give myself so much credit for that. That’s why I keep on posting my hand injury on social media. I will not let anyone forget that. I gave my right hand for this movie!" Blake joked. It's good she managed to keep a sense of humor despite the pain. Without realizing, Lively had actually added more depth to the film with her injury. Cinema Blend reports that Lively was "appreciative of the results that director Reed Morano and cinematographer Sean Bobbitt got from that fight itself" and there was no better way to achieve the injury than by actually having it for real!

This role is certainly new gritty territory for Lively, who rose to fame playing Serena van der Woodsen in the series Gossip Girl, which ran from 2007-2012. She has since starred in many successful movies, such as The Sisterhood of the Traveling PantsGreen Lantern, and A Simple Favor. Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds met on the set of Green Lantern and married in 2012. The couple lives in New York with their three daughters, James, 5, Inez, 3, and their 9-month-old baby, Betty. We can't wait to see what role, and matching hairstyle, Lively will try next.
