Australian actress and conservationist Bindi Irwin recently announced that she was engaged to her longtime boyfriend Chandler Powell and revealed new details on the upcoming nuptials. Bindi plans to honor her late father Steve Irwin at her wedding in several different ways.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Bindi says that she and Chandler are eager to be married and that the ceremony will come sometime next year. Bindi also revealed the location of their wedding saying, "For me, the most important thing is getting married here at Australia Zoo because this is where I feel closest to dad." Chandler and Bindi met at Australia Zoo when Bindi gave her future husband a tour of the grounds.

Bindi's father, Steve Irwin, died tragically in 2006 while filming a documentary on ocean life. His daughter feels that the best way to honor him is to focus on family at the wedding.

Bindi told ET that she has always imagined her wedding since she was a little girl. To honor Steve, Bindi’s younger brother, Robert, will walk her down the aisle in Steve’s place.

"For me, it will be really important that Robert walks me down the aisle," Bindi explained.  "Ever since Dad passed away as a little girl you always think about your wedding day and I'm always so grateful that Robert is there and that he is such a big part of my life. He's always stepped up and been the one to give me a hug when I needed and encourage me forward in life....I think that is what Dad would've wanted as well."

Bindi’s mom, Terri, will also play an important role at the wedding. Throughout her childhood and into her adult years, Bindi and Terri have had an unshakeable bond as both continue to help animals at the Australia Zoo. A strong tradition at most weddings involves a dance with the bride and her father. With Steve gone, Terri will fill in at the father-daughter dance.

Bindi describes her mother as her “pillar of strength” and says that she loves her mom beyond description. With Robert giving her away and Terri filling in for Steve at the father-daughter dance, Bindi feels that the wedding will be very special and focused entirely on the family.
