Bindi Irwin Confirms She's Having A Baby Girl In Adorable Post With Husband Chandler

Bindi Irwin confirmed on Instagram on Tuesday that she is expecting a baby girl. The 22-year-old star posted the announcement alongside a photo of herself, her husband, a giant Aldabra tortoise, and a sonogram of their unborn child.

“Baby girl, you are our world. ❤️  Our beautiful daughter is now about the same size as a hatchling Aldabra tortoise and is as healthy as can be,” Irwin wrote to her nearly 4 million followers. “We can’t wait for her arrival next year.”

Chandler Powell, Irwin’s 23-year-old husband, also shared a photo on Instagram, writing:

“Our little girl and my beautiful wife are my entire world. I’m so excited to meet our daughter when she’s born next year and to see the incredible person she will grow up to be.”

Irwin and Powell first announced that they were expecting a child in early August in a surprise post to their social media accounts. At the time, Irwin said that she was still somewhere in her first trimester; assuming the pregnancy goes as planned, Irwin should give birth sometime in late winter or early spring of 2021.

Following both announcements, fans, family members, and friends took to social media to congratulate the couple on their baby girl.

Robert Irwin, Bindi Irwin’s 16-year-old younger brother, commented on this Tuesday’s post, writing: “can’t wait to meet my niece! 😊🎉❤️”

Other notable comments include one from Animal Planet, the network that produces the Crikey! It's the Irwins show, which wrote: “Ahhhh so exciting!!! You’ll both be such wonderful parents to this baby girl! 💕”

Irwin, who has become a conservationist in the spirit of her late father Steve Irwin, married 23-year-old Chandler Powell on March 25, according to CNN. In keeping with the family’s love for animals, Bindi and Chandler held the secret wedding in the gardens of Australia Zoo in Queensland. As cool and unusual as that may seem, the zoo still belongs to the Irwin family — in fact, the family lives there together — as it’s the same facility that Bindi’s grandparents opened in the 1970s.

The two animal lovers met back in 2013 while Powell was visiting Australia for a wakeboarding competition. Shortly thereafter, Irwin gave the then 16-year-old a tour of the zoo, according to USA Today.

But the couple’s relationship began in earnest last December when the two got engaged. In typical Irwin fashion, the pair released a koala back into the wild to celebrate the occasion, USA Today reports. And now, less than a year later, these two lovebirds are expecting their first child, a baby girl.

"We’re going to be parents!! We have a baby Wildlife Warrior on the way coming in 2021. Becoming a dad is the highlight of my life," Powell wrote back in August when the couple first announced the pregnancy. "I cannot wait to embark on this new adventure and life chapter with my gorgeous wife, @bindisueirwin. Bee, you’re going to be the most amazing mother."
