At a 2009 Billy Ray Cyrus concert, the country singer dedicated his hit single “Some Gave All” in an emotional salute to military families. Before the 2009 Freedom Concert, however, Cyrus met with wheelchair-bound Sherman Gillums Jr., a former US Marine.

During the meeting, Cyrus told the Marine “God Bless You, sir” while shaking the man’s hand. Cyrus next had Gillums come backstage with him. Later Gillums joined Billy Ray on stage for the performance of “Some Gave All” that the crowd watching found very touching.

The audience paid their respects to Cyrus and Gillums, and then the performance of the hit song began. Cyrus thanked all the folks in the audience and their families for their service to this great country. Then he dedicated the particular song to the audience and everyone watching at home. Next, Cyrus performed a solemn version of “Some Gave All” that was so stunning that the crowd became silent.

You’ll most likely get goosebumps, and a tear may form in your eye when you hear Billy Ray Cyrus sing the lyrics about members of the military being faithful to the United States, and giving their lives up for our liberties.

These touching lyrics of the song “Some Gave All” remind us to remember the importance of every person who serves in the military, or who has ever served in the military. We especially remember all those who lost their lives fighting for our freedoms. Even though this song was released 25 years ago, Cyrus still sings it in his concerts to this day.
