Billy Joel Stops His Motorcycle Ride To Play A Piano Left Curbside For Trash

Have you ever owned a piano and gotten rid of it - not because it was no longer playable or damaged, but because it took up too much space or you didn't want it any longer?

If you have, you probably don't want to be around Billy Joel. Joel, famous for his piano-playing skills and songs like  Uptown Girl  and Piano Man , is an avid fan of the instrument and was recorded playing an abandoned piano on the street this year in Long Island, New York.

The video captures Joel playing the piano and lamenting the fact that such a great instrument could have been tossed aside.

For the person who shot the video, it was probably quite the sight to see a legendary superstar like Billy Joel take time out of his day to play a piano that had been left out on the side of the road. Joel encountered the instrument while out on a motorcycle ride in the town of Huntington in Long Island, NY, according to the video's title and description. During his motorcycle adventure, it appears that Joel just spotted the trashed piano and decided to give it a closer look and see if it still played.

When the video starts, Joel is playing the curbside piano and it sounds great. Some of that may be due to the performer's amazing talent with the instrument, but it appears that the piano is not beyond saving. Joel, who is still wearing his motorcycle helmet, stops playing the instrument and expresses disbelief that the instrument is being left out as trash. He mentions that it might need some tuning, but that it is quite the lovely instrument.

He expresses his dismay over the fact that the piano is not being donated as he seems to think it still has plenty of life. While the camera work is shaky because it appears the individual who was doing the filming didn't want to let on that he was recording Joel, one can clearly see Joel rocking out on the piano and commenting about its virtues to off-camera people.

When you watch this video, it makes you think of the immense talent of Billy Joel and how starstruck those in the neighborhood must have been to see this legendary performer interrupt his day to play a random piano that was destined for the trash heap.
