Billie Eilish’s performance of “Yesterday” caused goosebumps during the Academy Awards’ “In Memoriam” segment.

As every year, the Oscars took the time to honor the many talents Hollywood lost during the previous year. Over the last years, it has become a tradition to have a musician sing a ballad or emotional song during this “In Memoriam” segment.

This year, singer Billie Eilish was chosen to honor the late stars of the film industry. The 18-year-old performed an emotional version of “Yesterday” by the Beatles. Her brother and collaborator Finneas O’Connell accompanied her on the piano.

Billie Eilish appeared in an all-black outfit with her signature neon-green hair. She had her eyes closed during most of her performance as she was filled with emotion. On the screen behind her and Finneas, the yearly “In Memoriam” montage was playing. Hollywood’s late legends and icons were each honored with a picture or a little video.

The first celebrity who appeared on screen was Kobe Bryant who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash on January 26. Next to his image, the montage showed one of his quotes:

"Life is too short to get bogged down and be discouraged. You have to keep moving. You have to keep going."

After the tribute to Kobe Bryant, other late stars of the film industry such as Doris Day, Diahann Carroll or Robert Evans were honored on screen.

The last person who was remembered was Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas who passed away last week at the age of 103.

Performing during the Oscars’ “In Memoriam” was another great accomplishment for 18-year-old Billie Eilish, who recently won five out of six awards she was nominated for at the 2020 Grammy Awards.

What is more, it has been confirmed that the young musician is going to contribute her vocals to Daniel Craig‘s final James Bond film by singing the theme song in “No Time to Die.”
