They say that if you help others, it will come back to you tenfold – and it couldn’t be any truer for a billionaire who gave away hundreds of millions of dollars to help others. In return, more blessings came his way.
Rob Hale owns a company that can be found in city Quincy, Massachusetts, called Granite Communications. According to its website, his company “provides one-stop solutions for voice, data, internet,” among others.
While most businessmen are only in for the profit, it’s not the same for Hale, who had been giving away a whopping $1 million for 52 weeks straight along with his wife, Karen. But they are not just giving away money to random companies – they have been giving them away to well-deserving nonprofit organizations.
Hale explained his decision to give away millions of dollars, saying he believes it is important to share the blessings they have been receiving with other people.
"We're blessed, we're very fortunate," Hale told CBS Boston. "And our belief is that we should extend those good tidings as deeply into the community as much as possible."
From hospitals to institutions, the help the Hale family extended to these institutions is invaluable and went a long way.
Hale noted that they owe their successes to the communities.
“Our successes are because of the community, and we believe that we should do everything we can to return those good fortunes to the community," Hale told NBC Boston.
But the help Hale extended to the communities isn’t just all talk. In fact, the millions of dollars he had given away continue to reach those who are in need.
New England Patriots lineman Joe Andruzzi told CBS Boston told how Hale called him one day to tell him about his plans.

Andruzzi, who runs a foundation that aims to help cancer patients, called it a “major gift.”
"So, he invested a million dollars into an endowment for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, and that's a major gift," Andruzzi told CBS Boston.
Another company that received an endowment from Hale was South Shore Stars which is “a nonprofit organization providing the highest quality early education and youth development programs for the communities south of Boston.”
Kartina Bergmann of the New England Wildlife Center shared how the money Hale donated to them will not only help them for a few months but will actually sustain their operations on a long-term basis.
“We've never had an endowment. We have always been paycheck to paycheck to paycheck,” she told NBC Boston.
Other institutions that received help from the Hale family include DOVE or Domestic Violence Ended and the Ron Burton Training Village.
While people appreciated the work that Hale did, he admitted it wasn’t all about the attention but the feeling that he had accomplished something for the good of others – a feeling he said felt similar to a gift.
"When you realize that you're helping other people, who are then going to help other people, it makes you feel so good," Hale said. "To me it's a gift that we actually get."
Indeed, Hale isn’t just all about making money – and it shows in the way he cares for his community. Some people might say it’s just a small thing considering his company is worth more than a billion. But to those who benefited from his donations, his help is certainly invaluable.
