On Feb. 2, 2025, at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California, Beyoncé made history by winning her first-ever Grammy for Best Country Album. Beyoncé’s winning album “Cowboy Carter,” like her previous works, showcases a rich fusion of musical styles.
The remarkable achievement was particularly historic, as she became the first Black woman to receive the prestigious award in the Country Album category, adding another groundbreaking milestone to her already legendary career. The award was presented to Beyoncé by none other than the iconic Taylor Swift.
Beyoncé received an impressive 11 nominations and took home three awards including one for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her collaboration with Miley Cyrus on the track “II Most Wanted.” This victory highlighted her immense talent and her ability to seamlessly navigate and innovate within different musical genres, including country – a genre she had never previously dabbled in.
The moment celebrated diversity and artistic evolution, underscoring how Beyoncé continues to challenge norms and break barriers in the music industry – from her early days with Destiny’s Child to her record-breaking solo success.
The 27-track album is framed as a radio broadcast by the fictional KNTRY Radio Texas, with country legends Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, and Linda Martell taking on the roles of disc jockeys, adding a unique and immersive touch to the project. The album also boasts a star-studded lineup, featuring collaborations with artists like Post Malone, and even Beyoncé’s 7-year-old daughter, Rumi Carter.

Additionally, “Cowboy Carter” highlights the talents of Black country artists such as Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, Willie Jones and more. Legends like Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Nile Rodgers, Jon Batiste, Gary Clark Jr., and Rhiannon Giddens contributed their instrumental expertise across various tracks.
The singer looked absolutely shocked when she was announced as the winner. In her acceptance speech, Beyoncé said:
“Wow, I want to thank God that I'm able to still do what I love after so many years.”
She continued:
“Oh, my God, I'd like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this album. We worked so hard on it.”
The artist then added: “I think sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists. And I just want to encourage people to do this,” and continued: “Stay persistent.”
Beyoncé then thanked those closest to her heart:
“Wow, I like to thank my beautiful family, all of the artists that were collaborators. Thank you. This wouldn't have been this album without you. Like to thank God again and my fans. And I still am in shock, thank you so much for this honor.”
Swift, who presented Beyoncé with her Grammy, was confirmed as a presenter just days before the 2025 ceremony. The 14-time Grammy winner also had a big night ahead, being nominated for six awards, including Best Music Video, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year for “Fortnight” with Post Malone. She also earned nods for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with Gracie Abrams for “Us” and Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year for her album “The Tortured Poets Department.”
Both Swift and Beyoncé were contenders for Album of the Year, with Beyoncé aiming for her first win in the category, while a win for Swift could have made her the first artist to win five Album of the Year Grammys, breaking her own record.
