Betty White’s Home ‘Is No More’ Following Demolition Ahead Of Icon’s One-Year Death Anniversary

Betty White was one of the remaining legendary actors from the golden age of television. She was the queen of sitcoms and had been working in show business since 1939. She was best known for her roles in the hit sitcoms, “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Golden Girls” and “Hot in Cleveland.” With her career spanning over 80 years, White has been recognized by the “Guiness Book of World Records” for having had the longest-running career in the film and television industry.

White received many awards over the course of her career, including Emmy awards in multiple categories. She also won American Comedy awards, Screen Actor Guild awards and even a Grammy. In 1995 she was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame and even has her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. White’s accomplishments in her field really can’t be understated.

Outside of acting, White dedicated her life to advocating for animal health and welfare. She was a devoted pet enthusiast and had three dogs of her own. White worked with a number of animal organizations, including the Los Angeles Zoo Commission, Actors and Others for Animals, African Wildlife Foundation and The Morris Animal Foundation.

She truly had a spectacular life and a prolific career. As with most famous people, she had an impressive net worth, accumulating to several million dollars. White had also been living by herself for a long time in Carmel Meadows before she passed.

However, in December 2022, a year after White’s passing, her assistant Kiersten Mikelas announced that White’s beloved home had been torn down.

During her career, White was known for being incredibly hilarious and a kind-hearted person. She played the title role in the show “Life with Elizabeth.” She later went on to host and produce her own variety show called “The Betty White Show.” She had creative control over the series, making her one of the first women to succeed both in front of and behind the camera.

Some of the other series and movies White became famous for include “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” "The Golden Girls," "The Bold and the Beautiful," "Hot in Cleveland,” "The Proposal" and "Toy Story 4."

After her third husband, Allen Ludden, with whom she was for 20 years, passed away in 1981, White did not remarry. She had three stepchildren from her marriage to Ludden, whom she helped to raise and has been a doting mother to, according to Closer Weekly.

With such an incredible array of movies and television shows to her name, White accumulated a significant earning over the years. With a net worth of a whopping $75 million at the point of her passing, White was one of the richest celebrities today, according to Yahoo Finance.

However, what will happen to her fortune has so far not reached the public. While it stands to reason that her three stepchildren will inherit some of it, White's charity and animal welfare work make it plausible that several charities will also receive a sizable portion of it.

White lived her last years in Carmel Meadows, which is part of the wealthy community of Carmel Highlands. The community is located in a secluded and unincorporated part of Monterey County, California. The area is known for its rugged and hilly terrain, as well as its jaw-dropping views of the ocean.

White was in good company, as the neighborhood is also home to Clint Eastwood and Sammy Hagar, according to Mansion Global. However, on Dec. 10, 2022, White’s assistant Kiersten Mikelas, who runs her Instagram account, made a heartbreaking announcement. The place that was White’s home for over 50 years was being torn down. Mikelas wrote in the post:

“Hello all! I owe a post (or two) I know. This is such a busy time of year and coming up on the anniversary of Betty’s passing is hitting in ways I hadn’t anticipated. Her Brentwood home is no more (save the fireplaces which will be gone in short order). I promise a wonderful tribute to our most wonderful lady very soon!!!!”

It was torn down in December 2022, almost a year after White’s passing on Dec. 31, 2021. Many fans were conflicted on their feelings toward the matter, as they just wanted the best for White and her home.

The Brentwood, California, home was previously posted on Zillow, where it sold as a tear-down property for 10,678,000 in June 2022. It was sold for $15,000 over the estimated price.

According to the Wall Street Journal, a four-bedroom home that White also owned sold for $10.775 million. It went on the market in March 2022 and was sold the following month.

White’s estate said:

“Betty White was a California girl through and through. Despite living in New York when she and Allen Ludden were first married, she longed to be ‘back home’ in Los Angeles where she grew up.”
