Betty White's life is best defined by decades of hard work. When she was just 2 years old, her family moved from Illinois to California, reports Good Housekeeping. As a result of this move, Ms. White developed the talent and connections needed to begin her path to an impressive 21 Emmy nominations.

At 20, Betty and her high school sweetheart danced in an experimental television show, reports Parade. She wore her high school graduation dress as she appeared in a number accompanied by “The Merry Widow Waltz.” Unfortunately, this 1939 footage was lost and has yet to resurface.

At a time when most women were lucky to make an ornamental appearance or one as a stereotypical character, Betty White was rising through the ranks. White produced the first episode of “Life With Elizabeth,” a television series that aired until 1955. This was a groundbreaking move that propelled White to one of her first Emmy nominations.

If she broke ground as a producer, White rose above it in a role designed just for her. Sue Ann Nivens of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” highlighted several elements of White’s personality. These renditions of White’s shadow side appeared throughout the iconic mid-70s prime time hit.

Most Americans probably know White for one of her most beloved characters, Rose Nylund on “The Golden Girls.” This 1980s classic comedic character resulted in laughter in every living room for Rose’s naïve comments and trademark wide-eyed, innocent expression, reports Country Living.

The character of Rose has become so associated with White. In fact, most people think of it when reflecting on White’s career. What many don’t know is that White was initially recruited to portray Blanche Devereaux, a strikingly different role. Fear of White becoming typecast lead the director to reassign these two roles.

White continued to steal the scene during her 16 episodes of “Boston Legal.” According to Biography.com, in this dramatic show featuring the equally famous William Shatner, White provides a striking contrast to Rose Nylund. Catherine Piper masterfully blended Rose’s friendliness with striking intelligence and relational intrigue.

White has talent that leaves people wanting more of her. Her five-year stint on the show “Hot in Cleveland” began as a guest appearance. Once she made her appearance in the pilot, everyone knew she had to be a part of the regular cast.

In 2019, an actress as successful as White could have easily retired. Yet at the age of 97, she chose to charm us all again. Her “Toy Story 4” voice-over of the character Bitey White left everyone wanting more wonderful surprises from one of America’s most beloved and most versatile stars.

This walk down memory lane with Betty White has most likely left you wanting more of her phenomenal range. Do you admire the wide range of characters portrayed by White or other Hollywood stars?
