Beth Chapman Celebrated With Traditional Hawaiian Memorial Ceremony

Over this past weekend, Beth Chapman was honored with a moving Hawaiian memorial service. The service took place in Waikiki and included traditional Hawaiian blessings to honor Beth’s life and legacy.

Last Wednesday Beth Chapman reality TV star of the long-running show “Dog The Bounty Hunter” on A&E passed away amid her battle with throat cancer, she was only 51. Her husband Duane ‘Dog’ Chapman announced her death on Twitter last Wednesday writing, “It’s 5:32 in Hawaii, this is the time she would wake up to go hike Koko Head mountain,” he wrote. “Only today, she hiked the stairway to heaven. We all love you, Beth. See you on the other side.” Since passing, Beth has received an influx of love and support from fans. Lyssa Chapman, Duane’s daughter, said to Hawaii News Now, "It actually makes us feel, you know, warm, to know how much our mother was loved."

On Saturday, Beth was honored by friends and family who gathered to pay tribute to her memory. The ceremony included an oli (chant) and a traditional Hawaiian blessing. Duane also said some words at her service, Camie Mahkovtz who attended the service told ET, "The Hawaiian prayer was given and Dog trembled with grief, everyone was very kind and considerate as we all gathered around our brother to give a wonderful Hawaiian send-off of to our dear Beth." 

After the ceremony, the Chapman family and attendees paddled out into the ocean from Fort DeRussy Beach Park to place flowers in the water to honor Beth. The Waikiki service is the first of two ceremonies the Chapman family have planned for Beth. They also have plans to honor Beth in Colorado as well. Misti Manasas, a friend of the Chapmans told Hawaii News Now, "Hawaii is definitely her heart, and I’m just really grateful that we’re able to be a part of it and be here to support the family."
