The TLC television series “1000-lb Sisters” has become a guilty pleasure for many people in the United States, as well as anyone who can access it in other countries. It’s a show that follows the lives of Amy Slaton and Tammy Slaton, sisters that once weighed over 1,000 pounds together and have always depended on each other for support. The television series depicts the hardships of what it’s like for them to live as morbidly obese women while trying to find their own path to health and happiness.

Similar to “My 600-lb Life,” the show “1000-lb Sisters” has a fan following of people cheering on Amy and Tammy as they navigate weight loss and other obstacles in life, specifically ones related to their health. While many people have grown to adore the sisters for their sense of humor and their relationship with each other, others have pointed out how unmotivated the sisters seem at times to really take care of themselves and take their health situation seriously.

Each season depicts the challenging lives of overweight sisters Amy and Tammy. The two navigate their relationship together, as well as their own personal lives, mixed in with their individual weight loss goals.

The show also features many people in Tammy and Amy’s lives, including their brother Chris Combs. While fans have enjoyed watching Amy and Tammy’s weight loss journeys over the years, they have also been pleasantly surprised to see Combs show off his own health journey. In April 2022, the reality star uploaded before-and-after photos that left “1000-lb Sisters” fans blown away.

Combs has been dedicated to his journey toward a healthier way of life. In a YouTube clip from TLC, in which Combs was seen stretching, he said, “I just want to touch my toes.”

He explained that he tried to do “some sort of exercise” every day and make each meal “as healthy” as he could. “The struggle is real,” he shared. All of these strides were taken in an effort to lose weight and show dedication before Combs underwent weight loss surgery.

He shared his reasons for wanting to change his lifestyle:

“The main reason why I want this surgery is because my dad passed away at 57. And he was between 400 and 500 pounds. I’m 41, I want to be around for the kids to grow up, the grandkids to get up. I want to be able to teach them everything I know. I want to be around for my family. They’re my everything.”

Four months after receiving his weight loss surgery, Combs was ready to show off his new physique and “that a fat boy got a suit.” He shared that he lost about 70 pounds, which meant he was around 140 pounds lighter than his heaviest weight. Combs started at 482 pounds and was able to get down to 339 pounds.

“The difference is between night and day,” he said. On top of that, Combs’ blood sugar levels had “leveled off,” and he didn’t need to take insulin anymore.

Combs shared before-and-after photos on his Instagram to an audience of ecstatic fans, where he wrote the caption:

“I would have to say that this has been the hardest but the most rewarding journey I've ever done.”
