The African Spur Thigh Tortoise, or the sulcata tortoise as it's also known, is one of the largest tortoise species on the planet. According to Reptiles Magazine, sulcata tortoises were considered rare in the United States just a few decades ago.

The species has shown an amazing ability to adapt to various climates and habitats in captivity. Their low maintenance combined with a curious personality makes them commonly sought after by first-time tortoise owners.

It’s hard to deny how cute these babies are. Mom seems unfazed by the weight of her children as she walks on the sand perfectly balancing all nine of them on her back.

As adorable as they look, baby sulcata tortoises don’t stay small for long. Males can grow to over 200 pounds, while females get to be around half of that.
