Baby Springs Opens Eyes Just Before He Is To Be Taken Off Life Support

They say there is nothing like a mother’s love. The bond between an unborn child and a mother, and father, is unbreakable. Listening to an ultrasound and feeling your baby kicking are memorable experiences before your bundle of joy arrives.

For a number of mothers, unfortunately, they don’t get what they expect upon their baby’s arrival. For new parents Greg and Chelsea Bedford, they realized an issue following their delivery. Baby Oscar was stillborn and after many revival attempts, he remained unresponsive.

The hospital allowed Greg and Chelsea to take baby Oscar to the Infirmary to spend some time with him before leaving. Because he would never have the opportunity to meet his relatives, they decided to allow family members to meet him via Facetime.

While Chelsea’s mother was on the phone, a miracle happened! The grandmother took a look at baby Oscar and let out an alarming scream. He opened his eyes, indicating he was actually alive right before he was going to be taken off of life support.

The parents, while still in disbelief, were overwhelmed with happiness. “His eyes were open for the first time and it was so surreal – it felt like a dream," his mom told Leicester Mercury.

After being breastfed, Oscar was transferred to Rainbows Hospice in Loughborough. Since his rehabilitation, Oscar has been able to go home and cared for by his loving parents. Though his development is immensely delayed, the Bedfords are grateful that their little man is alive and doing well.

“He smiles and he laughs and he loves lights, despite being partially blind," his mom told Leicester Mercury.

Chelsea and Greg are optimistic about their son Oscar’s recovery, but they understand his condition makes them unaware of how long he will live. With a daughter on the way, they are determined to extend Oscar’s life with a physiotherapy fundraiser.

These parents’ story is indeed miraculous. The love of a mother, or grandmother, can literally be the difference between life and death.
