Baby Born With No Eyes Is Looking For Loving Forever Home After Being Put Up For Adoption

Adoption agencies in Russia are looking for a loving home that will adopt a “unique” baby boy who was born without eyes.

Alexander K., who is nicknamed “Sasha,” was born in April. The doctors who have examined him say that he is healthy, but he will never be able to see, according to The Siberian Times.

Sasha was born to a young mother who had herself been raised in an orphanage. She put him up for adoption as she believed she could not give him the care he needed or deserved.

Sasha is currently being cared for a nurse who lives in Tomsk, a city in Siberia. She told The Siberian Times, “He is no different to other children, he plays and smiles just like any healthy baby. He loves playing and adores swimming. He is a very cheerful baby indeed.”

Sasha’s doctors believe that he has an extreme form of SOX2 anophthalmia syndrome, a rare birth defect that affects one out of 250,000 infants. Sasha also has two benign cysts on his forehead that the doctors plan to remove soon.

Sasha’s good health makes him unique among children with SOX2 anophthalmia syndrome. Most such children are born with other health problems.

Tatiana Rudnikovich, a doctor in Tomsk, told The Siberian Times, Sasha is “doing well.” He has been receiving all of the check-ups and tests that any baby his age would receive. The adoption agency reports that there is no information about Sasha’s father; there is a dash on the birth certificate where the father’s name ought to be, indicating that it is not known.

Sasha is up for foster care or adoption. His caretakers would like him to be adopted by a Russian family, but if nobody steps forward, they will consider foreign guardians. There are, however, currently rules restricting adoptions to the United States.

Recently, Sasha’s caregiver took him to St. Petersburg, which is 2500 miles away. There, doctors surgically planted orbs within his sockets to ensure his facial bones grow normally and don’t become misshapen. As Sasha grows, he will need new orbs about every six months.
