Baby Attempts To Fight Sleep With His Adorable Smile

Do you know that feeling when it seems like you could just drift off and sleep for ages, but you can’t just yet? Maybe it’s because you have something important or exciting to do, or because you aren’t anywhere where you can comfortably sleep. The constantly drooping of the eyes makes it even harder to stay awake. One sweet baby found this struggle to be all too real when he tried to stop himself from falling asleep.

Despite seeming to desperately need a nap, baby Leo appeared to not want to succumb to slumber in a viral video that has been making its way around the world with the help of the internet. The video has been circulating for a few years, with the earliest origin being from 2009. Even though it’s quite old now, anyone who watches the video can instantly see why people are still in awe over the sweet baby boy.

The adorable boy could hardly keep his eyes open, but that didn’t stop him from having a good day. While his eyes continued to blink open and closed, Leo had the sweetest smile on his face. Every time he noticed the camera in front of him videotaping his near slumber, he smiled brightly. Many people adored the baby who tried his best to fight the urge to nap, and the original upload has since garnered more than eight million views. With Leo’s happy smile and adorable face, it’s no wonder why so many people felt for the cute baby who was sweetly trying to not fall asleep.

Getting enough sleep can be critical for one’s health. When people get enough sleep, they’re more likely to be able to be more productive during the day, and it can help with overall health and wellness. During a sleep study conducted by the National Sleep Foundation, researchers found that babies need various amounts of sleep depending on their age, but it also varied on a person-to-person basis. According to the NSF, newborns need between 14 and 17 hours of sleep a day, while infants need between 12 and 15 hours of sleep a day.

This amount of sleep is usually not done in one sitting, as infants, babies and toddlers typically have a nap or two, or even more, during the day. The Sleep Foundation stated that naps can actually be beneficial for babies as they “enable a more generalized memory that is important for learning and brain development.”

The amount needed shortens as babies grow into toddlers, and again shortens in each assigned age gap. For example, by the time people reach adulthood, they usually only need around 7 or 8 hours of sleep to be able to fully function, according to the NSF.

The NSF found that “sufficient sleep duration requirements vary across the lifespan and from person to person” after finishing their research. The amount of sleep they recommend is simply that: a recommendation. While some people may need more or less depending on their lifestyle, or if they have a sleeping disorder, this recommended amount is typically a good guideline for average, healthy individuals.

According to an article from HuffPost in November 2012, the video of baby Leo fighting sleep is originally from 2009, and has earned over eight million views since. Despite this, people have continued to share the video happily, as Leo is an absolutely adorable baby with a very precious smile. Each time he started drifting off, he would suddenly wake up, smiling and giggling each time. Leo was sitting in the car with his mom as they were going to be heading out on a car trip, according to HuffPost.

Even though most people instantly loved the baby boy and the video warmed their hearts, some viewers expressed concern about Leo’s safety, as his car seat appeared to be strapped into the front passenger seat of the car. Thankfully, Leo’s mom helped wipe everyone’s doubts away.

“Thanks for the concern, but there wasn’t an airbag in the passenger side of this vehicle,” Leo’s mom Lisa Jones said. “Leo was totally safe and legal and I tightened his straps before we set off on our journey.”

In the viral video, baby Leo struggled to keep his small eyes open as he was extremely close to falling asleep. His mother filmed the video, and made sure to zoom in on her cute son’s smiling face. Leo was full of light and laughter despite being very tired, and he continued to grin and giggle every time he got caught almost drifting off.

The baby’s joyfulness was present throughout the entire video, as his round cheeks and tiny smile were constantly on display. Leo managed to make it through the short video without completely falling asleep, but it looked like his fight wasn’t over just yet, even when the video came to an end.
