It’s a wonderful thing to see that people everywhere are not only recycling at a higher level, but they are finding incredible ways to transform common objects into creatively repurposed ideas.

Richard and Amy live in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and have built themselves quite an interesting little home. The two were expecting a little one and wanted to build something that was not only efficient but completely friendly to the environment.

Instead of going out and purchasing a home beyond their means, the creative couple managed to transform three shipping containers into an actual house that is completely solar-powered.

They both travel frequently for work and also spend a great deal of time visiting Richard’s parents in England. They just didn’t see the need to finance themselves into a hold and spend a lifetime paying down a loan.

Instead, they saw that Amy’s parents had five acres of land free on their property and they decided to get crafty. They wanted to go the less traditional route, and when they found these shipping containers they knew they would be the perfect solution.

They completely transformed the containers, which were made of heavy steel, by providing insulation inside and outside. They also added a weather-resistant surfacing that gave the containers the look of having traditional siding.

The goal of having three separate containers was to separate them out into spaces with three different purposes. One container would be for the bedroom, one for the living room and kitchen, and one for the bathroom and shower. The containers are connected by doors that make for a house with great flow. The house is also solar-powered

The inside of the house has walls covered in wood paneling that also covers the ceiling. They knew that the home was small so they made sure that they had a purpose for every square foot of the home.

For example, the beds are lofted with plenty of storage underneath and a bookshelf built into the headboard. This creative couple has made such good use of the space that they even have room for a full dining room with a six-chair dining table.

Outside of the fact that the home is literally built from storage containers, it is an incredibly modern home.

What do you think about this incredibly creative home? Would you even believe it was built from storage units if you simply saw a picture? Let us know what you think!
