At 83, Harrison Ford openly contemplated what fulfillment would look like after a lifetime in front of the camera. During an Apple TV press event held on Feb. 5, 2026, in Los Angeles, the acclaimed actor addressed the possibility that his TV show “Shrinking” could mark the conclusion of his acting career. The conversation offered a rare moment of reflection from a performer whose work has shaped film and television.

Ford stars in “Shrinking” alongside Jason Segel, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, Christa Miller, and Luke Tennie. His portrayal of Dr. Paul Rhoades, a therapist living with Parkinson’s disease, has been widely praised and is considered one of his most emotionally grounded performances. The role highlights a quieter, more introspective side of an actor long associated with iconic characters.

The performance earned Ford his first-ever Emmy nomination, along with recognition from the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards, and the Screen Actors Guild. From redefining the modern action hero to grounding blockbuster cinema with humanity and grit, Ford’s work has consistently influenced how audiences connect with stories on screen.

His legacy is most often associated with cultural landmarks such as the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” franchises. Across decades, his talent translated into critical acclaim and commercial success, securing his place as one of Hollywood’s enduring figures.

Although Ford dismissed the idea of stepping away from acting in 2025, his panel remarks suggested a reflective outlook focused on meaning and personal satisfaction. That mindset continues to shape how he approaches creative choices today within the industry globally.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, during the discussion, Ford emphasized the creative satisfaction his role in “Shrinking” has given him. He said:

“Where do you go from here? The kind of work that we’re able to do is remarkable given the tools we have to work with, and the notion that lies behind this series. And if it was all over here, that would be sufficient.”

The actor described the series as uniquely meaningful within his long career:

“This has been a different kind of job for me, and I’ve been doing this for a long time,” adding,  “This is very special and it really nurtures me and makes me feel like what we’re doing has value and importance. I look for that in my life and I’m happy to have found it here.”

Executive producer and panel moderator Ashley Nicole Black summed it up, telling Ford, “There’s never been a better place to end a panel.”

Ford’s performance in “Shrinking” also carries personal weight, particularly in the show’s second season, where Ford shares scenes with Michael J. Fox.

“It was a bit daunting because I am representing a character that has Parkinson’s, and Michael has the real thing,” Ford explained and continued, “I’ve always felt a real sense of responsibility for getting that part of my story right.”

Ford then reflected on working with Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991 at the age of 29: “But Michael is an extraordinary, generous and lovely fellow, who I did not know at all and had a chance to, just working on this show.”

He continued:

“It was an extraordinary experience to work with him. He is such a powerful presence. Such grace and courage and indomitability, and some of that, I hope, will help me color my portrayal of a character with Parkinson’s.”

Fox later shared his own reaction in an interview with Vanity Fair, revealing that Ford’s performance moved him deeply:

“What I wasn’t prepared for was how much of his own understanding of the disease he brought to it,” Fox continued: “I mean, I recognized Parkinson’s in his eyes.”
