Christopher Meloni is an American actor who is best known for playing the role of Detective Elliot Stabler in the crime drama "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit." In 2021, Meloni reprised the role in a spin-off series, "Law and Order: Organized Crime."
The star also made a name for himself on the network, HBO. First, he portrayed inmate Chris Keller on "Oz," and later became a recurring character in season five of "True Blood."
Not just known for acting on TV, Meloni has also been in the films "Man of Steel," "Wet Hot American Summer," "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas."
The actor worked as a construction worker, bouncer and personal trainer before he began working as an entertainer full-time. He got his start working in commercials and had minor film roles before he landed a recurring part on "NYPD Blue."
Outside of his acting career, Meloni is a family man. In 1995, he married Doris Sherman Williams, who is a production designer, and together they had their first child, a daughter named Sophia Eva Pietra Meloni, in March 2001. The actor's co-star from "Law & Order," Mariska Hargitay, is the girl's godmother. The couple's son, Dante Amadeo Meloni, was born in January 2004.
Although he's built a solid career over more than three decades, Meloni is enjoying a renaissance of sorts in the last couple of years. His attractive looks and willingness to laugh at himself have garnered him a new legion of younger fans, and they've even dubbed him a "zaddy." The term refers to "a fashionable, confident, and attractive man, especially an older one."
In an October 2022 interview with People, Meloni opened up about his career resurgence, as well as his and his family's thoughts on his new nickname.

As a longtime cast member of the "Law & Order" franchise, Meloni has gained plenty of fame and plenty of fans. He first started on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" back in September 1999 and starred in the series for 12 seasons, before he left in May 2011. Eventually, after 10 years away from the franchise, Meloni returned as Detective Stabler in "Law & Order: Organized Crime" in April 2021. That year, the actor spoke with Entertainment Weekly about not missing his past gig when he wasn't on the series, but that he was excited to make his return. He said:
"I would have no problem admitting to it. But I was pleasantly surprised it played out as well as it did. Because, you know, that's not how life shakes out, right? You can have all the dreams you want, all the preconceived notions of how it's going to be. But I must say, the intervening decade was everything I could have hoped for."
Meloni's return to playing Stabler coincided with a surge in popularity among younger audiences. This led him to trend on social media, and subsequently gain the adoration of a whole new legion of fans, something he nor anyone else expected this late in his career.
"It's a second act to a certain degree," he told People Magazine. Referring to his "zaddy" nickname, Meloni said:
"It's a gas. It's fun. I don't know, has anyone else been crowned Zaddy? Once it's bestowed upon you, you have to just ride that horse as long as you can," he joked.

As for Meloni's family? They're in on the joke too. He told People:
"My wife, she's lovely, she gets it. Meaning she's like, 'Eh, whatever.' My kids, on the other hand, invariably once a month, it's 'Really? Really?'" He added, "Their friends will send them a meme that's come out or whatever."
While poking fun at their dad, Meloni's children are also in on the fun. He shared, "I think secretly in their hearts, they get it. ... "It's cool, because we all have a good goof with it. My children's friends bust my chops, but it's all fun. It's an honor."
Although Meloni still acted in the 10 years that he was away from "Law & Order," the actor seems to have also taken some personal time for himself to enjoy life. He spoke to People about getting older and enjoying where he's at currently:
"Age is a wondrous thing. You hope that with time you get a little wiser, get a little more patient and really come from a place of more maturity, which I translate to clarity and love ... And by love, it's not kumbaya, but a sense we're all in this together, we're all doing the best we can. It's a more refined way to operate."
Any actor who's had a career like Meloni's would count their blessings, but to have such a warm welcome in one's "second act" is truly a wonder. And Meloni is ever grateful. He said the best part is "really just having an attitude of enjoying the ride." He added:
"It's great. Are you kidding me? I'm 61-years-old and a zaddy. The lucky streak continues."
