At 46, John Cena Enjoys His Child-Free Lifestyle As He Doesn't Want To Have To Choose Between A Child Or His Wife

John Cena is America's beloved actor, former rapper and legendary wrestler. His prowess as a wrestler has made him known as one of the greatest professional wrestlers in the world. Cena also has a fine resume in the movie industry. He has starred in films like "The Suicide Squad," "Blockers," "Ferdinand," and many other great movies.

Being a public figure, parts of Cena's private life have been open to the public with the rise of his career. During an interview on "The Drew Barrymore Show" in January 2022, Cena talked about his thoughts on having a child-free marriage with his wife, Shay Shariatzadeh, in order to avoid choosing between them. During his relationship with fellow wrestler, Nikki Bella, fans were privy to this decision.

According to Us Weekly, Cena and Shariatzadeh secretly tied the knot in Florida in October 2020. The duo were first spotted together after a date in Canada in March 2019. The actor and Shariatzadeh were captured in April 2019 packing on the PDA at San Diego Airport. Also, in July 2019, they went on a romantic date to a WWE Raw taping. The couple were also seen kissing in June of the same year in a restaurant in Florida.

Cena's relationship with the engineer was his first relationship after his engagement to Bella ended in July 2018. The couple made their relationship official in October 2019 with their red carpet debut at the New York premiere of "Playing With Fire." Prior to their 2020 intimate wedding, Cena took to Twitter, now X, and shared a profound tweet that read:

“Love involves constant effort. When you are truly ready to let love in and give to love all it needs to flourish, I feel there is no greater more rewarding connection.”

After "The Marine" actor and Shariatzadeh secretly tied the knot, they held a second public wedding ceremony on July 15, 2022. Aside from being a loving husband to his Canadian native wife, Cena is an exceptionally kind person. This was proved in Florida in 2020 after he showed kindness and compassion to a widowed veteran in a Publix supermarket. Cena ran into the veteran, Philips "Bud," at the checkout line and ended up engaging in a conversation.

Before the end of their conversation, the "Bumblebee" actor noticed Phillips' SeaBees hat, a symbol of his service in the Vietnam War. Although Cena has worked with various charity organizations that provide help to veterans, he never served in the military. Cena was first into football, and he also did exercise physiology and bodybuilding before he became a wrestler in 1999.

The "F9" actor showed his utmost respect and gratitude for Phillips' dedication by thanking him for his service and also secretly paid for his groceries, which cost almost $100. Philips was overjoyed as he was informed of Cena's kindness when he got to the cashier. The veteran was able to take a selfie with the "Trainwreck" actor, which captured the overwhelming appreciation on his face.

This act of kindness meant a lot to the retired Vietnam veteran who lost his wife five years ago and faced countless challenges. The veteran's daughter, Stefanie, described the impact of Cena's kind gesture on her father. She explained to ET that not too much made him smile. She also added:

"That's what so special about this moment. A simple act of kindness brightened his day. Along with his family seeing that smile on his face!"

Since they exchanged their vows, Cena has been enjoying his marriage to Shariatzadeh without kids or any seeming plan to expand their family in the future. During the movie star’s chat with Drew Barrymore, he shared his outlook on the notion of having children. Cena stated that balancing the time he needed to run his life as an adult was hard. He explained:

"It's hard work to be the best partner and husband I can be to my loving wife. It's hard to keep connections with those in my life that I love. And it's also hard to put in an honest day's work."

The host of the show praised Cena, as she said he would make "the world's greatest father" because of his interaction with kids. Although Cena thanked her for the thoughtful comment, the actor had a different perspective. He said:

"Just because you might be good at something, for me it's not a strong enough reason to do that. You have to have passion for it. You have to have fuel for it," he added. "It's like saying to someone, 'Man, you know, you're pretty good with your hands, you'd be a great carpenter,' but if I want to be an actor, I'll be an actor."

In August 2022, a source close to the actor exclusively shared with Us Weekly that the actor was warming up to the idea of having kids. The source shared that with Shariatzadeh, Cena felt wiser and ready for that responsibility.

However, in 2023, the 46-year-old actor has continued to enjoy the perks of being without kids and spending all his time embracing his marriage. It is understandable how Cena does not want to choose between his wife and a kid and instead focuses on navigating marriage for now.
