At 100 years old, Dick Van Dyke and his wife, Arlene Silver, 54, marked a meaningful milestone in their relationship: 14 years of marriage. The beloved entertainer and the makeup artist chose a unique wedding date, exchanging vows on leap day, Feb. 29, 2012.
To celebrate the anniversary, the couple invited fans into a candid moment together during an Instagram Live conversation. After the broadcast ended, Silver shared the recording with followers on March 1, 2026.
Van Dyke, born on Dec. 13, 1935, has enjoyed one of the most celebrated careers in entertainment history. His work across television, film, and theater established him as a beloved performer known for his comedic timing, musical talent, and enduring charm.
Over the decades, his achievements earned numerous honors, including five Primetime Emmy Awards, a Tony Award, and a Grammy Award. His influence on television was formally recognized in 1995 when he was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame, and in 2012, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Van Dyke addressed the question many fans often ask about his remarkable energy and longevity. Reflecting on his outlook, he explained: “Genes, I guess, for one thing. Having a beautiful young wife half my age to take care of me – that works! My positive attitude, I get that from my wife.”
Silver captioned the saved Instagram Live recording with a celebratory message: “14 year anniversary with my very special guest ❤️❤️❤️.” The short caption introduced a relaxed conversation between the couple as they answered fan questions and reflected on their relationship.
In the March 2026 video, Silver said: “I have a very special guest today to celebrate a very special day. My husband is here!” She then turned the camera toward Van Dyke, who was resting beside her on their bed.

Van Dyke immediately added a playful clarification:
“I’m not really shorter, I’m just lying down on the bed.”
He then pointed toward his wife and added, “Hi, she’s mine!”
Silver, born on Sept. 21, 1971, continued reading viewer comments and encouraged her husband to describe the first time they met at the awards show in 2006. Van Dyke recalled the moment:
“I was sitting in the green room where everybody waits to go on, and the place is full of actors and actresses. One thing about Hollywood actresses, they’re pretty heads on stick figures. So I know them in a minute. I was sitting there just by myself, all of a sudden I see this vision approaching me. No stick figure, gorgeous!”
He then explained how the introduction turned into a job offer:
“And I swear this, I never thought of getting up, I never thought of speaking, I found myself standing on my feet saying, ‘Hi, I’m Dick.’ I don’t know what hit me, but I just did it. I invited her to sit down, we chatted a while, turns out she was a makeup gal, so I hired her on the spot.”
Van Dyke gushed about the years after.
“Neither one of us can think where the time went,” he said, adding, “We’ve had so much fun, been so many places. And I’ve fallen in love with her more every day. I do, I'm telling you. She gets better every day. I wouldn’t even be here, I wouldn't be 100 years old if it weren’t for her, and that’s no kidding. She’s pulled me through a lot of things.”
He ended with a take on his and their longevity.
“But I feel pretty good for 100. And she just keeps getting more and more gorgeous, doesn’t she?”
