Kutcher has been absent from the big screen the past few years but the reason is not an absence of opportunity. Kutcher is choosing instead to spend his time saving lives.
In an interview with the Today Show in 2016, Kutcher had a specific request: "You know what you can pray for me about - I got something. When Barack Obama was going into office I made a pledge that I would start fighting human trafficking." That's why Kutcher and his former wife, Demi Moore, created an organization in 2012 to combat the horror of human trafficking. The name of the organization is Thorn. A documentary they watched about sex-trafficking in Cambodia inspired them to start the organization.

The latest initiative by Kutcher is intended to rid the internet of pornographic material depicting children. His goal is supported by the fact that Thorn is one of eight organizations that will share $280 million courtesy of 'The Audacious Project.'
The internet has provided a platform for a person interested in child pornography to distribute and access this material on a large scale. The majority of children victimized by this practice are under the age of twelve.

Kutcher and Moore once characterized child sexual abuse as a horror that will change you forever once you are made conscious of the facts. A message on their website says that once they investigated further, the couple learned America's problem with this issue was just as big as other countries.
Thorn fights child sex trafficking through technology that seeks out evidence of the crime online. The technology actively seeks out victims of sexual exploitation and seeks to end the ability of individuals to use online platforms for these crimes
Thorn makes the technology available to law enforcement at no cost. In 2017, Kutcher testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Capitol Hill. He sought more support for the work he is doing.
To date, Thorn and Kutcher have identified more than 9,300 child victims of sex-trafficking. Once identified Thorn alerts appropriate law enforcement personnel and victims are then located and rescued.
Fans of Kutcher's work are no doubt disappointed to not see one of their favorite actors in as many movies as they once did. However, they can take solace in the fact he is doing something positive when he is not on the screen.
